Bobby's Games

I will be posting monthly recaps of my gaming which I have been doing in GeekLists. I'll also be commenting on games on occasion, though I can tell you that I will be behind the curve because I just don't get to play the new games as soon as some people do.

After some more consideration, I am going to be abandoning Commands & Colors: Napoleonics. My primary opponent is also going to be getting rid of his copy. He has played it once or twice after we initially played it, and his rating keeps going down. I'll likely also trade away my copy of Battle Cry and my Memoir '44. Battle Cry, because I would like to get the updated edition at some point and Memoir '44 because we are just not likely to play it again after our campaign a few months ago which fizzled before we played the last scenario.

We have been playing a lot of 7 Wonders when Nico makes it on Saturday. He is the only person in the group that bought a copy of the game, so it's play has been relatively limited. I'm not sure there is really much strategy and planning you can do in the game, but it is still a tremendously fun tactical game. Michael, who is winning every game, thinks you should be able to trade with players that aren't your direct neighbors. He was bothered that he couldn't buy something to build cards he wanted to build because the players on either side of him didn't have it available. The funny thing is, he still won that game.

I don't think the rules need to be changed, but it highlights something I've suspected: the game plays best with three players, but you might still not be able to use some goods if the card gets discarded or used for a wonder. I'm really looking forward to getting a copy of this for myself.

Mike taught me how to play Summoner Wars last night. It's a fun little game that I might have jumped all over a few years ago. Now it is something I would just consider buying on a whim, but I really dislike that they have promos that are only available if you place another order from their online store. They should make them available from local stores that stock their product, because that is the backbone of the hobby market. I guess it is a reason not to buy another game that might get played once in a blue moon.

And here's a shout out to Witch of Salem a nasty and fun cooperative game which plays in an hour, or less. It's got Cthulhu without all the time investment that some other games have. the play is not as robust as Pandemic, but it still packs a lot of fun into the short time.

I'm picking up Nightfall tonight. I decided that what I know about the game after our misplaying last month is enough for me to invest the money in the base set. I should get my money's worth out of it, and likely more than my money's worth. Of course, I'll now win a copy as the 100 Days of Night contest. Being impatient is such a burden which I take on so the rest of you won't have to! shake

As far as I know the promos for Summoner Wars are available from your FLGS. They just have to request it specifically when they put in an order from the distributor.

I am definitely done with C and C Napoleonics. I just do not think the system works well for the genre. As you know, I got rid of my M44 this past month. It was a fun game, but for some reason, the campaign made me lose all interest in the game. C and C Ancients and Battlecry are enough to keep me occupied. Plus Battles of Westeros is by far the best game in the series.

Summoner Wars is a great little filler that has lots of play in it. No point in you getting is since I am you main 2 player opponent and I have it

I know. I think may just keep a base Memoir '44 game. I just don't know, yet.

You should get the promos for Summoner Wars...

I would not bother with the base game since a lot of those scenarios are not balanced. That means digging through all of their scenarios to find one and then remembering to bring it.

I'll try to get the promos if you want to continue playing the game.

I've got PDFs of all the scenarios to a point, so I can play pretty much any of them at any time with what is in the main set.

I guess getting an iPad would be a good thing?
