We got this game for Christmas in 2010, and we played it a lot that Christmas but haven't hardly played it since. A big reason for that was moving away from our things for a year. But it was nice to finally play it again.
We used the randomizer for the first time. That was kind of neat. It gave us the following deck:
I got a Moneylender right off, which I quickly used to good advantage. I upgraded my Coppers to some better cash rather quickly. I easily nabbed the first two Provinces.
My wife didn't seem nearly as interested in the Moneylender. She's always a big fan of the Bureaucrat, which gave me a good opportunity to review my various fiefs while she eased into the Province race.
When a bad draw forced me to buy a Cellar and I started using it to burn through my deck more quickly, she decided to do the same. That was a fast equalizer.
In the end I lucked out on the last province. If I hadn't gotten it, she'd have won on the final turn. But with my five provinces to her three, I pushed ahead to a 34–25 win.
This is definitely a game I wish we played more often.
