Welcome to my blog!

Here, I'll be discussing the goings on of my gaming (and occasionally non-gaming) life, thinking about the joys of gaming and the challenges of GMing, interacting with humanity and being the most Iron of reviewers. I warn you now that I'm not great at this whole blog thing, but I'm doing alright at the whole Geek thing and I'm hoping that it'll rub off now that the two are one.

Me and one of my brothers. I'm the one...you like better...

First up, let me bring you up to speed: I'm 31, living with the world's most wonderful woman, Alice (sorry, chaps!) and I am the proud progenitor of Avery (my three and a half year old son) and Kalinda (my 8 month old girl). I work as a teacher of English (primarily) and History (Ancient, when I can) here in Sydney, the only Australian state without a natural disaster in the last month (fingers crossed for the future).

Avery and Jetray. Avery is the one who... oh, come on, you can figure it out...

I'm an enormous fan of Doctor Who and many other media icons, along with comics, literature, film, music, Lego... You name it, really. I'm a Geek's Geek, an OmniGeek, totally Geeked out - however you'd like to put it. I contribute to all three Geeks and you can bet that if any more are launched I'll be clamouring to get in on the ground floor.

This time, I'm the one on the right. For sure. The other guy is my buddy, Phil

Here are some things I've achieved since I got here:

I wrote an award-winning RPG, Shakespearead
I co-wrote Requiem, the Geek-based text adventure that ran last january.
I made Some microbadges to celebrate my love of Legend of the Five Rings and the Tavern
I was RPG Geek of the Week
and here is My to-do list.

Now, onto current affairs:

I'm planning to leave teaching in the next two years and open a store specialising in games and Lego. I've got a location scouted out and I'm doing all the business paperwork, but with a mortgage hanging over my head, it may be a pipedream. We'll see.

My quest for games that Avery will enjoy continues. His current favourites are Ker Plunk and Animal Upon Animal, plus he plays a lot of Peek-a-Boo with his little sister and loves to roll Dice for me when I'm roleplaying. He's on track to be a good little geek so far!

Three and a half and already a killer DM!

My top-secret project for RPG Geek is progressing well. No-one knows about it yet (oops!) but let's just say that if it doesn't work out, at least we can all laugh at the Fiasco.

Alice recently decided that she's interested in getting some time at the gaming table with my gaggle of regulars. This is not unprecedented; back before we had kids, she jumped in on games of The Settlers of Catan, Talisman and even Men in Black: The Roleplaying Game (Heck, before she met me, she was already world champion of King's Quest I: The Quest for the Crown). Needless to say I'm excited about this and looking to encourage her. She's expressed interest in Zooloretto and The Red Dragon Inn. I'll let you know how that goes for us.

This is Alice shortly before the epiphany that she would get more out of life if she gamed with me

My Legend of the Five Rings (3rd Edition) campaign has languished for a few months now and I need to get it back on its feet. Expect to see some updates on my planning here soon.

That's about it for now. Look forward to seeing you again.

Game on, it's a crazy feeling!

Good to find out more about the mysterious "Hida Mann".

Are you a fan of the L5R ccg as well, or just the RPG?

Phil's been working on me to play more role playing games, but my ever increasing range of commitments prevent me from being involved in campaigns, however I'm always willing to set aside time for Fiasco.

Hope to meet you in the flesh at some point - is there a regular open gaming venue in Sydney you frequent?

And good luck with the plans for the shop.

Best,

Iain

Oh - and how do I get a copy of Shakespeared? My wife is a big Shakespeare fan, and has roleplayed in the past, so she would not be immune to its charms.

You know, Alma, I've written a little list of Mann puns just for this... Close down the module and take two asprin if they become too much for you

Thanks, Lowell - I'll be in touch about those books I owe you soon

Trif, I used to frequent Games Paradise when I worked there in the late 90s Then I was hanging out at Sydney Uni where I was president of their gaming club. Now, I have my own little circle who come to my house when the siren song of gaming calls to them.

Sadly, this makes me lazy. I want to come to BoardGameGlebe some time soon. I've gotten to the new Game Cafe in Dulwich Hill on a Tuesday night a few times and that's pretty cool.

I'm a big fan of L5R CCG - I may be the last person in NSW buying it Phil and Fiasco are a good combination, make the most of having them around you.

Finally, Shakespearead can be downloaded right here on the Geek:

DOWNLOAD SHAKESPEAREAD

Cheers!

Mann alive, are they ever! He can get a touch Manniacal, but if you just grit your teeth, you can Mannage...

Oh goodness, I think we're losing Alma! Oh no!

Mann down!

Tuesday at The Playspace have proven good fun. You're even pictured on their website!

I don't know why she calls it Historical Games Night (although I guess that sounds educational), the closest we've come is a game of 7 Wonders.
