This weekend we dug into some shelved games that we needed to get to the table.
We started with Vikings having purchased it on impulse just getting into the hobby, but thrown for a curve by the nifty mechanic. The game was fun but had a mis-start the first night after starting too late and tiredness trumped teaching and understanding capability. Completing the rules discussion on day two went great followed by a fun 2 player game.
In the evening we sat down with the rules and narrative rules for At the Gates of Loyang. Having watched at least one YouTube video and I had skimmed the rules earlier we slogged into it and started the first round. By the second round we felt, well, like most congressmen during our current budget crisis. Not sure what we went wrong, but I was pleased my wife asked me to keep the game on the game table today so we can give it another go tomorrow.
Today was filled with life obligations and a disappointing overflow of poetic license in The Voyage of the Dawn Treadre movie, but in the evening enjoyed learning and playing a round of Biblios accompanied by our astute (but silly ) 10YO gamer. We played the deck out in Gifting and then moved on to auctions. At first I was expecting that after a round of Gifting we would Auction. Turn movement didn't proceed as fast as my wife would have liked, especially for a card game.
So what's all this "Letter L" stuff? Well, I'm a sucker for a good Sesame Street reference, and the player T-Square in both Vikings and Loyang reminded me of L's as we were Learning new games.
