Hello Everyone,

Thanks to the generosity of David Link from Aspirement games, we have the unique opportunity to have our first contest.
We will be giving away promo codes of Bohnanza (the app) to the winners of this contest.

The contest opens today 5/23/11 and will close Tuesday 6/1/11. The winners will be announced the next in conjunction with our review Bohnanza.

How to Enter:

To enter you should do the following things:
1. We are new to throwing contests, we need your help. To enter the contest please email a contest idea to iosboardgames@gmail.com. The idea can be anything, we want to know what you think makes a great contest, and your creativity is welcomed.
2. Specify in your email, if you do win, whether you need an ipad code or an iphone/ipod touch code.

I hope many of you participate and we look forward to more contests in the future.

Thanks,
Brad

Good idea for a contest. I will have a think...

As an aside, are there plans to enable iOS games to be regarded as a version of a hardcopy game? I don't own Bohnanza, and if I were to win/buy an iOS version I am unlikely to buy the hardcopy version. The iOS version will certainly be part of my collection though - at least as far as I am concerned.

Apologies if this question has been answered previously.

I wonder how a five week contest for a free copy of the game will hold up sales for people on the fence about buying it...that said, love free stuff, love contests, hope to see more.

I highly doubt it since it isn't a boardgame, but it is a video game and should be added to the videogamegeek.com database where you can track your collection.

And yet iOS Boardgames is a subsection of BGG, not VGG...

I see the iOS games as being a version of boardgame, not a different entity. It's comparable say to Regenwormen's relationship to Pickomino. Further, I recently bought the iOS version of Hey, That's My Fish and the game itself is so close to the hard version that it would be redundant to buy it. It's this redundancy that makes the case in my mind to make an iOS example of a game a legitimate version type.

There aren't any rules about collection-keeping, so I'd say do as you see fit.

Personally, I don't record them on either BGG or VGG.

Just gotta add this, that the 'experience' of certain games, particularly games like Bohnanza, where the dialog between players during a round of trading is central to the game, does not always translate well to electronic versions, even if all of the mechanics are there.

That having been said, I have both the card game and the iOS version of Bohnanza, and while it is an excellent reproduction of the card game, and it is very nice to have the game accessible at all times when I want to play, I will easily put it down in favor of playing the real game at a table with friends.

I agree 100%. I use iOS games when I am waiting somewhere and really don't want to engage in some of the mindless dexterity games available. These are not a substitute for the real game, and most don't advertise that way.

I don't have the iOS Bohnanza yet, but I know it will never replace watching my daughter trying to negotiate for cards using the "I love you Daddy" method, which doesn't work anymore. No AI or sound effect can simulate that.

Being not a native English speaker, I am uncertain about what I should do. The instructions are clear, but what exactly is meant with a CONTEST IDEA? Should I come up with an idea of a game for IPad/IPhone? Or should I think up some multiplayer game with existing games for I-Thingy?
Help?

Greetz,
FreeHansje
