The end of May. Not much longer and we will be in our fourth year of gaming on Tuesdays. Tons has happened in that time. I'll try not to wax poetic on all of that, especially since I really need to wax the Crokinole board first. Timm and I started with a round, which he won. Before we could even start a second round, Kevin, and then Chris, showed up. So, since we weren't sure what to play, we figured we open up the evening with a game of Some'R'Set. Timm and Kevin started out winning the bids on the first two hands. The first hand they got the bid exactly. No sand bags. Both bids were 13, by the way. The second hand Chris and I set them. Timm went with 12's on that hand. I've come to the conclusion that unless you are very long in 12's, they aren't a good trump suit. Too many trump (14) and less control. Of course, if you are long, it can be a dominating hand. Chris and I won 4 of the next five hands, something like that. We had a considerable lead and the bidding started for the last hand. Timm bid it up to 15 and I had a feeling he had a butt load of 10's and would kill if he got the bid (winning the bid allows you to call trump). I pushed it up to 16 and he stopped. Winning the bid is huge as you then control what is trump. I called the Zulu (0 suit) as trump. The cards are like domino's, if you will. Imagine a double-tweleve set. That is what the cards are. 12's have 13 cards 0-12, 10's have 11 cards 0-10, etc. The Zulu is the double blank...0/0. The only card in it's suit. There is one added twist, the S/S, which is the lowest trump in the game (and the highest point card). I had both and called the Zulu. I also had pretty high cards in the other suits, not bosses, but high enough to take some tricks. Chris and I managed to pull out the win on that hand.
Ooops, a little wordy. I love the game.
Noone was really in the mood to either teach or learn, so Stone Age was one we decided on. It was a tight game for awhile. Kevin was f*cking like rabbits and ultimately had 10 workers. I had built up my food and was trying to grab huts. Timm had tools. I forget what Chris was heavy in. But, because of having 10 workers, he was able to snowball into the last couple of turns and blow by us for a pretty strong win. I think he had 160 something. Chris had 130 something. I fhad 122 and Timm had 119.
Yes, I forgot my notes today, or misplaced them.
We had about an hourish to play and trying to figure out something when Dominion jumped out begging to be played. I throw the Intrigue and Seaside cards in the same box, in baggies. We picked out ten, randomly, and set the game up.
Ug. Sea Hag, Buerocrat and no Moat. The Curse cards were just building up in our hand. Some okay cards but none of us could really get on a roll. First deck to go was the 30 curses. Then it was the Estates and Duchy's to end the game, which was longish as it was hard to buy. Only two Provinces were bought. Timm and Kevin each had one and they scored 19 at game end. I had 14 and Chris had 8 (we did not have a big victory point card). Not the most brutal game of it I had played, but in the top 2, for certain.
