Introducing Fanfare Games

Greetings fellow game enthusiasts. My name is Chris and I would like to introduce you to Fanfare Games. Fanfare Games is a tabletop gaming company that is the brainchild of my brother, Tony, and myself. While we understand that there is a lot of competition in the tabletop gaming market, not to mention competition for gamers’ time from computer and video games, we feel that we have some great ideas that will set us apart from the crowd.

Tony and I are both avid card gamers. I began playing card games more than fifteen years ago with the Decipher-released Star Wars CCG, which I played for over a decade. Tony and I have both played nearly countless different card games, from Star Wars to Magic: The Gathering, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Versus, Dominion and many small independently published games. Over the years we have been able to view all the things that work well in games, as well as those that don’t. We’ve also seen what is missing in the gaming marketplace, and that is largely what led us to start our own company.

Today I am going to introduce you to our first release, coming later this summer, called Basketball G.M. In addition to being gamers, we are big sports fans and have often viewed the sports gaming landscape as being too narrow and not really oriented towards strategic gamers. We decided that, rather than create a game where the players compete directly in a one-on-one, single game setting, we would take a more fantasy sports-like approach. In Basketball G.M., we put you in the shoes of a basketball team’s general manager, and we let you make all of the decisions that shape a pro basketball team over the course of a full season, as opposed to the usual day-to-day grind.

Stay tuned for more updates on Basketball G.M. as we approach release, and be sure to like us on Facebook (Fanfare Games), check out our website (www.fanfaregames.net) and follow us on Twitter (@FanfareGames) for more updates and spoilers! © 2011 Fanfare Games.

I'm not a big basketball fan, but I would definitely buy that game (and football and baseball games as well.)

Other sports GM games are certainly not out of the question. When we were first coming up with the idea for a sports management game, we actually considered a number of different sports. We chose basketball mainly because of the small roster size. Working with 5 starters is much easier than 11 for soccer/footie or 22 for American football (offense and defense), and that's ignoring benches.

Yep, they're simple. All GMs discard all of their players and everyone loses.

Glad to hear it! We're currently playtesting and polishing it up, but we expect it to be ready to print next month. Check back on this blog for more details about the game.
