Three of us today, Timm, Mr. Modelo, and myself. Okay, only two of us played games, one played games with our heads. LOL
Because it was just Timm and I and we just got together on Sunday to play a couple of games, we decided on a repeat performance. The first game we played on Tuesday was Macao. On Sunday when we played, I beat Timm pretty handedly with a shipping/city quarter strategy. Last night, Timm got the choice first and went based off of people and getting bonus points for them. I ended up working on getting money. We flew through the first five or so rounds. The game takes the two of us, perhaps 90 minutes now. And if it's just the two of us, we are slow. In the fifth round, I got nailed with a double whammy of punishment points. I didn't have any cubes on the wheel and I had to take a card when my tableu was full. Minus six. Ouch! But my plan started coming into play as I was able to get cards down and start getting some pretty good money coming in. Timm did not have a good money engine this game and missed out on buying points at least twice when I bought points. At the end, even with Timm's end game points and getting no punishment points, I managed to win 78 to 56. I think Sunday it was in my favor 91 to 75 (or something like that). Am I finally getting the game where I can play well? Gotta play the Macaosavant, Kevin, to really test it out.
The second game we played on Sunday and then last night was Troyes. Sunday was Timm's first game of it and my second and it took us awhile to hack through the rules. I lost that one, 39-37. So, playing it again on Tuesday would be a nice 'bring it back' and try to use what we learned. This game is a pretty cool twist on worker placement and use of dice. There are reviews that cover what the game is like much better than what I can do. I just know I do enjoy this one. Will it have legs? I'm not sure. But I enjoy it.
So, in our brisk game (about 90 minutes) Timm was really working the events to gain influence (he had the influence bonus card). I was floundering, making bad choices. They didn't seem bad until a round later when I was watching Timm rack up the points. Money for both of us did not seem to be much of a concern as we both could get money at will. At the end of it all, Timm had 53 and I had 38.
We were talking last night and I think Chicago Express needs to make an appearance on Tuesday again. I'm starting to jones for the game.
No appearance of the Skull. He is waiting for Sean. Yes, Sean. The Skull told me that.
