I don't like sleeves. They add bulk and slipperiness that make cards harder to handle. I have also never owned a game that I thought would get destroyed beyond playability that I couldn't replace.

Dixit is the first game that has made me want sleeves. I sleeved them with the Mayday Magnum Gold sleeves. Yes, the stack is now bigger. Yes, I've already had the slippery deck jump out of my hands and all over the floor twice now. I hate that. But I think the artwork is a vital and necessary part of this game. Also, since it's a party game it may be in a lot of hands around food, drinks, and other card destroying substances. Therefore, the slick as bat poop sleeves are necessary evils for this game.

I'm still not a fan of sleeves, and hope to never sleeve another deck. But Dixit was worth it. Thank you, Mayday, for making sleeves for this game!

You will learn young Padawan. I'm newish to sleeves for board games but know they are necessary if you actually PLAY some games a lot. I've gotten used to it with Magic the Gathering Sleeves(I don't collect this anymore....board games are my new Rare or Epic rarity cards.) Those cost a lot more too. It's just when games have a lot of cards ,such as Dominion, it costs quite a bit to sleeve everything. Sleeves are good and make games last (my old copy of Lost Cities has a lot of scuffs and stuff but every card is like that so it's playable....I doubt i'll replace it). I can imagine with more expensive games such as 7 Wonders that sleeves are necessary. Just think if you have nice sleeves you can throw them across the room and the cards are magically fine....helps with sore losers.

With use, the cards will start to develop a rough surface and they won't be as slippery.

The whole slide into gamer reminds me of my slide into another costly but great hobby: sport kites. I know that tastes, habits, and "average cost" per item shifts as you get deeper in and realize all the options that exist.

Glad to know sleeves can age into more manageable textures.

It isn't age, but rather hand oil.
Your sleeves should become less slick after about 5-8 plays.
Also, the air will work its way out over time and the deck will compress to about 2/3 it's freshly sleeved thickness (sometimes as much as 1/2 the size!).

It definitely is worth it. I actually prefer the slipperiness as it makes the cards easier to shuffle, but I understand your concerns.
