Jumped in but it was a long time I played this one so the rules and strategy were fuzzy. I got a rules recap while playing. This is a bad idea both for yourself (you'll lose horribly) and towards other players ("what was that rule again?").
- Fifth Avenue
This game has reputation of being one of the weaker big box Alea games ("... Fifth Avenue? It's got a 6.5 on BGG so it can't be a good game. ..."). I can understand why people can have a bad experience with this one. This game is mainly around bidding at the right time (for placing your skyscrapers and scoring) and you have to watch out when the game ends. Also it's a bit counter intuitive in that you should first try to get your skyscrapers on the right spots of the board before adding shops iso first dropping shops on the board (and thus prematurely end the game or inviting players to steal those attractive spots). That said, it left me with a good first impression. You really have look out when a auction is going to take place and for which district to shoot for. It think it will grow on me with further plays. I hope to find players willing to give this one a fair (read unbiased) chance. Luckily, the players I played it with gave it a fair chance although they gave me a hard time when explaining the rules
- Im Reich der Wüstensöhne
My first experience of the Entdecker series and a good one. I like this more than Carcassonne mainly because this one is more streamlined and cleaner (I never liked the farmer mechanic in Carcassonne). This game also nicely handles a unfortunate tile draw (saving up tiles and the different persons you can use). Clean rules and good fun, that's how I like 'em

2nd play of this game to confirm whether my initial enthusiasm is confirmed. Enthusiasm confirmed! In both games, we played the 'short' game because we thought the game would last too long. But now I'm thinking we should try the 'long' game. I'm just not sure on the balance of the buildings (vs the length of the 'short' game).

Quick card game to end the evening. Short and lots of interaction. Always nice to end the evening with this one.
