Day Two of our December Challenge sees the family play Ingenious. For background on the December Challenge, see my December 1st post.

Ingenious is a game that I rate a solid 10. I find it fun to play with gamers, non-gamers and children. Tonight was the 68th play that I had recorded on BGG.

Melissa decided to join in with the children and me tonight. Usually, when I play with the children, the game is much more open and friendly than when playing with gamers, so there is much less blocking and the scores tend to be higher. Tonight was no exception.

Everyone quickly got an ingenious in Blue, and the kids soon maxed out Red and Purple as well. Orange and Green proved to be tougher to get and I was having some trouble in Yellow. Melissa had a few cleared colors but was severely lagging behind in Orange. She tried to start up orange a couple of times, but it was soon blocked.

I finally joined everyone with 4 cleared colors. I cleared my rack as I had no tiles with my worst color (yellow). The next turn, things went my way as I was able to clear out Orange and Yellow for the win.

Final Scores: Larry 18, Son 14, Daughter 12, Melissa 9. The game was closer than it looks, as all three of them had only one color left and both my son and daughter would have had a chance to win on their turn.

Ingenious is also one of my most highly rated games. My wife and I play the app version whenever we are waiting in the car for our son to wake up.

I haven't tried the App version. Does it have a good AI?
