I was at a Christmas party until 10pm, so don’t know what was played during the earlier part of the evening, except that they played Shadows over Camelot (because various bits had been left out on my chair when I got back!), and were playing Category 5 when I returned. There were 6 of us when I got back, so we split into two threes. Airships was suggested for upstairs, while Marion asked to play Ingenious again, so Sami and I joined her downstairs for that. Sami spent ages trying to block off blue, and in the process managed to block Marion out of yellow, but I had more blues and yellows than anyone else so was in a good position, and managed to just beat Sami by one point at the end-game – unheard of!!

I chose The Downfall of Pompeii as the next game. The early game went on longer than usual – partly because I forgot to put the AD79 card back in the deck (oops – but we had only just started the bottom 15!), and I got tons of relatives – I only had 6 people not on the board (or in the volcano!) at the point Vesuvius erupted. As usual most of my people were on the safe area of the board south of the 1 building, although it did look a bit scary for a bit when all the gold coin tiles were drawn early and headed for my men at high speed! Several of the exits were blocked very quickly, but the slanted one on the top corner stayed open amazingly long, and in the end won Sami the game, as he escaped his people out of there, while I left mine, assuming they were doomed, and it meant we tied for men overall – but I had WAY more people in the volcano!

After that we moved to 6 player games, starting with 7 Wonders, where Marion’s “auto-win” wonder did actually do what it was supposed to do and won for her! Then she wanted something light to finish with, and chose Say Anything, but I think everyone was getting a bit tired by now and brains weren’t entirely with it – “The Box show with the beardy bloke” being Marion’s contribution for the most over-rated TV show (apparently it was Deal or No Deal she was thinking of!) - it was a good indication of the level of play!

Gaming with cake next Friday, as it's my birthday this week!
