Bobby's Games

I will be posting monthly recaps of my gaming which I have been doing in GeekLists. I'll also be commenting on games on occasion, though I can tell you that I will be behind the curve because I just don't get to play the new games as soon as some people do.

One of the problems with choosing Hermagor as a game to focus on getting played is sometimes you just don't have the right environment to focus on the game. We had five players, but two of the players had their baby with them, and I didn't think it would be fair to try and teach the game to them. We ended up playing Power Grid instead, which is something I won't complain about.

This Saturday might be the last we get to play at the store this year since Christmas Eve is the following week and New Year's Eve is after that. So I decided to pick something that is quick and easy to get to the table which I have access to right now.

Tanto Cuore is something I can play with just Michael if it ends up being just he and I again for much of the day. It's the closest to Dominion of any of the deck-building games yet the changes are enough to make it a different enough experience that it is worth owning and playing. It looks like the first expansion will be out in January, so it's time to get it back into the play rotation.

I might have played it some last month when my friends were visiting, but the text on the cards was too small for one of them because she needs to get new glasses. The small text on the cards is a problem and it is that wa because it appears Japanime Games (or Arclight) decided to cram the English translations into the same area as the Japanese text. The text/informational box probably should have been redesigned a little bit, but that is a minor quibble.

This might be the second place game for causing bad puns and suggestive comments. The first? Tier auf Tier, of course!

Here are a few games which I haven't played since 2008 which I will likely have as games of the week in the first half of 2012.

Around the World in 80 Days
Boomtown
Fabrik der Träume
Kingdoms (or the original Auf Heller und Pfennig)
Medieval Merchant (Gotta be in teaching mode)
Niagara
Samarkand (by Sid Sackson)
Siesta
Sunken City (we seemed to like it more than most)
That's Life!
Thief of Bagdad
Tower of Babel
Venedig
Walhalla
Web of Power
