December 20, 2011

Okay, that was irritating. I had my whole first paragraph typed out and dragged my hand or something which deleted everything I wrote. So, now I start again. It was Chris, Timm and I to game before Christmas beared down upon us. Oh, yeah, that sentence sucked. Anyways, it took us a bit to settle in on a game but we did finally settle in on playing Medina. The best looking game I own, I feel. The game started with all four palaces starting near the middle of the board, surrounding the conga line (market or people). Timm claimed the first palace but that is when the game really started as palaces were being claimed, new palaces were being started in either better spots or in poor spots (depending on the person placing). I managed to seal the win by being able to end, and then start, the conga line. I started it around my own palace where there was no choice but to go by my palace with it. I pulled out the win with 56, Chris had 42, and Timm had 40.

After the game, we looked in the alea cabiniet and Notre Dame jumped out at us. I had only played two player and five player and wanted to give three player a shot. I've become a huge Stefan Feld and wanted to get this one back to the table. It was good. I think I started out fast but as it went along, Chris and Timm got their engines fired up. Towards the end, Chris was getting points hand over foot (duly noted for my next game of this). Chris won with 66, Timm had 58 ande I had 43. I was surprised on how quick this one went, as well.

It was time for something less thinky, so Can't Stop hit the table. Chris jumped on the board early and got established in 12's. I managed to get "Stormtroopers" twice in a row (6,7,8) to work with and failed both times. A few turns later I got it and managed to ride 8's to the top to be the first to close up a spot. Chris jumped in and managed to close 2's and 12's and ride high with 6's. After a few turns, he managed to work the 6's for the win. Why did I not know of this game when I was young? I'd have loved it then, too.

Dominion and the Intrigue and Seaside expansions hit the table. As always, we do a random pull from the box and our first game was quite interesting. Why I don't remember any of the cards now, is beyond me, but we were trashing the hell out of cards, lots of curses and lots of points. The first game I won with 51, Chris had 44, and Timm had 18. The second game was the first time I had seen the Pirate Ship in play. What a great card that was. Everyone kept their decks pretty slim most of the game. Lots of money as the Smuggler was in play and we were gloming gold off of each other. Chris pulled out the win with 48 with Timm and I each with 41.

Thanks for reading and Happy Holidays!
