Undercover Work: Prepping for Nürnberg 2012

Apologies for the quietness these past couple of days. Information about games that will be shown at the 2012 Nürnberg Toy Fair has suddenly surged into my in-box and on other points online, so I've been trying to get those games in the BGG database in preparation for the Nürnberg 2012 Preview. Right now some of these listings are sparse, as with the Star Wars: Battle of Hoth game depicted at right, and the rest of the titles announced in the LEGO Games line: Kokoriko, Mini-Taurus (tee hee), [thing=116982]Maya Mystica[/thing], CITY Alarm, Heroica: Llrion, Heroica: Ganrash, and Phineas and Ferb. (Hard to believe that Star Wars: Battle of Hoth won't be a hit no matter how the game plays as LEGO essentially looked at the Venn diagram of gamers, SF geeks and toy fanatics and identified the magic spot where they intersect. Cha-ching!)

Kosmos is releasing the funky abstract stick-laying game Tasso as Lakota.

Ravensburger has BITS Mitbringspiel, Yakari: Geheime Botschaft and Indigo along with games that were not designed by Reiner Knizia. Yes, after being relatively absent from the new release section in 2011 – well, as absent as Knizia might be given his prolificity – many new releases scheduled for 2012 bear his name.

I'll push other newness into the database and get the Nürnberg 2012 Preview live soon.

While not game news, I thought I'd point out for those who don't already know that LEGO is also releasing a line of toys for The Lord of the Rings and the two Hobbit movies from Peter Jackson. From the press release: "LEGO® THE LORD OF THE RINGS construction sets are slated for a rolling global launch beginning in June 2012 in the United States, with LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY scheduled for later in the year."

They might as well issue a press release about the giant money vacuum they plan to put into action...

I like games that are pimped out by using Legos, but games released with Legos are doomed to be horrible...

I can't wait to see the 1000 piece Helm's Deep set at the local Lego store.

I already drool looking at the Millennium Falcon and Death Star they have on display. The inner 12 year old in me wants to take the 3 hours to put those each together!

Ha! I built the Death Star with my son last year. Try 3 days... Worth it though, it's awesome.

That is great news. I think they've only watered down the Star Wars Lego brand with all of the Clone Wars stuff they've put out. Look forward to collecting this anew. Goodbye disposable income!

We're going to Disney world next week... gonna try to talk the wife into letting me drop $400 on that.

I'm not hopeful.

They have Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer Executor in one of the display cases put together. I think it is more impressive than the Death Star personally. Maybe you should get both just to be sure?

Yes, apparently Lego funded the movie Spaceballs:

3 Hours...that gave me a good laugh.

The Star Destroyer took at least 60 hours for me to build, and has almost 1000 fewer pieces than the Falcon.
