Tres Hombres. Before Kevin arrived, Timm and I squeaked in a game of Alea Iacta Est. Out of these types of dice games, this is probably my favorite. There is confrontatation, it looks great, the game play is quick and fun. But, none of that helped me pull out a win. Because of his dominance of SPQR cards, he won 49-40.

Right as the game was ending Kevin arrived. So, after he arrived, I told him about my game idea that I was going to put together. It's a card game and I really can't go into more of it until it's been played. Unlike other games I have thought of, the rules are simple but the gameplay loaded with tough choices. I'm going to build my prototype this week so we can play it next week. Both Timm and Kevin were pretty excited about it as they saw what I'm seeing.

So, we had to find a game to play after the discussion. We hemmed and hawed and broke out a quick game of Samurai. It was a game that we all know how to play and our skills match up pretty well. Timm took a big jump early on Buddahs but he wasn't gathering up any other pieces as Kevin had helmets and a few other pieces. I had the rice patties and working furiously to get other pieces as I was looking at a three way tie. Kevin managed to end the game on a high note for him and was able to get the advantage in the three way tiebreaker. I guess I was second, but I didn't feel like it. I was struggling all game (the whole 25 minutes).

So, we were back at the shelves trying to figure out a game. I'm not sure who suggested it, but we tabled Blood Bowl: Team Manager - The Card Game. Kevin had not played it so we gave him the rundown of the game and off we went. Two notes about this game. To keep the rulebook from being a novel, the cards are not clarified. This slowed down the game in parts. Also, the game isn't short and overstays its welcome. I really enjoy the game, but it goes on too long for what it is. Next time I play three player, I'm only going to use four rounds with the last round starting player is decided by the last place person. Back to the game, Kevin had the Dwarves, I had the Rats (not sure what they were called) and I couldn't tell you what Timm had. It didn't matter, at about the halfway mark, Timm and Kevin were neck and neck in the lead and I was considerably farther behind. I worked to make a comeback, but it was too little, too late. Kevin won with 68, Timm had 61 and I had 55. Kevin had some great end game points.

So, hopefully next week we get to play my game.

I find those "cards aren't clarified" comments that many people seem to have about Blood Bowl: Team Manager - The Card Game somewhat odd - I never had any problems with them, they all seemed to be entirely clear to me. I guess that's also why I don't think the game is too long, because it's shorter when you're not bogged down by rules questions?

But maybe that's because I've played Blood Bowl (Third Edition) before?

I think more was read into specific cards than anything. Just got to remember to read the card, as is, like in Urban Sprawl. Also forgot the rule about only one Matchup Action card can be played...we played only one card, period, for a bit.
