I think the iphone allows to take many cool pictures a la Lomo/Holga. They don't replace "real photography", but they produce fine quick snaps.

These photos benefit from the small high-def screen of iPhone, they look much better that way... but the best ones do work on larger screens as well, I think.

By the way, if somebody is on Instagram, I'm mikkosaari there and would love to follow people who take board game photos.

I think the depth of field change in the first pic was too quick, it's almost like there is a line drawn at about the top fitfth and bottom tenth are, and everything outside of this area was blurred. I'm guessing that was a filter applied to the pic and not actually aperture?

Really like the second one.

Overall I've been really impressed with the iPhone's camera

I know nothing about photography, but I absolutely love the second picture. It reminds me of those old pictures from the 70's.

Yeah, iPhone lens cannot do that kind of depth of field effects, so it was a filter from Instagram. It's a bit too steep, yes, though that too looks a bit better on the small screen.

iPhone camera is like any other camera: in good light it takes good photos. The definition of good light is, however, broader than with other cell phone cameras I've tried.
