Description Edit | History

This solitaire wargame simulates the March 28, 1942, British raid on the Nazi-occupied French port of St. Nazaire.

In the first part of the game, the player moves the British boats and destroyer HMS Campbeltown (camouflaged as a German ship) to their landing areas, while determining the results of the many shots from the harbor defense guns. Upon landing, the remaining force tries to reach targets (sub pens, caissons, docked ships, supply tanks, etc.) and destroy them.

The German guards are handled by the game system and arrive via random draw and placement and move by most direct route to the nearest British commando. As the game progresses, the German units get tougher and better organized.

The game ends when either all British units are killed or escape and they score for the targets destroyed.

15 Log Sheet for 2nd Destroyer Variant Scenario
Use this log to play the "2nd Destroyer" variant scenario published in The General #24/4. You need to assign 7 commando units to each ship. Landing spaces are pre-designated and cannot be changed. The 2nd ship (I followed Felipe's proposal for the name) has enough passenger capacity to take everyone back home (you should be so lucky). As by scenario rules, it has 8 torpedos.

25 Set-Up Aid
This is a panel that speeds up the first turn by replacing boat counters until they enter zone A. It reduces congestion on the board and also gives an overview which boats carry torpedos and commandos and what their default landing zones are. The display is historically correct; the slightly bigger gap between ML 306 and ML 446 in the starboard column illustrates that ML 446 entered the action belated because it had, earlier in the approach, to take over the commandos from the damaged ML 341. The new version adds the masters' names as printed on the counters, it turned out to be convenient. Note that the MGB counter falls out of the system; it's master was Curtis, while Ryder was the Commander of the complete naval operation.

40 RoSN MAP With WHITE LINES
This is an updated version of the previous ROSN map with white lines. The original one has TWO errors which have been corrected on this map. I had two numbers that were "transposed" and this was just NOW brought to my attention.

13 Historically correct Game Log
This is a historically correct game log for Raid on St. Nazaire. The original Log Sheet and counters have the wrong boats listed as Torpedo Motor Launches (TML). This Log File has been corrected to represent the actual boats used in the raid.
