Description Edit | History

De Profundis is a very unusual story-telling game, not quite an RPG, as there are no real rules to the game. It follows the tradition of Hogshead's New Style imprint (e.g. The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen), yet is originally a Polish Design by Portal Publishing.

The rulebook, which is more an example of play than a collection of rules actually outlines two destinct games:

  • Psychodrama, a game of association and collaborative Lovecraftian storytelling played amongst a number of people similar to Munchausen

  • De Profundis, which invokes the same Lovecraftian story-telling themes, but is actually meant to be played via correspondence! So, the game progresses and evolves through letters, emails and what other form of communication seem appropriate.

From the Hogshead website:
"De Profundis" is a radical new game, blending the imagination of H.P. Lovecraft with elements of psychodrama and the correspondence-based story-telling methods of classic horror.

"De Profundis" is designed to break down the borders between gaming-time and real-life, and between reality and illusion, in the same way that the latest generation of computer games such as "Majestic" and the Nokia Game do. It runs without a GM, and can be played solo.
