Description Edit | History

Flat Top is a board game of high complexity that covers the battles of the Solomon Seas between the United States and Japan in 1942. It is very well researched and covers all aspects of naval and air combat as it existed in 1942. The system depicts weather, air searches, air combat, surface combat, carrier operations, submarines, air bases, supplies, and much more. The game requires intense planning and searching since movement is covert and the map is pretty huge.

The units are individual ships and submarines with each air point representing three aircraft. Hexes are twenty miles, and each turn represents one-hour.

The game includes thirteen hundred counters, 4 maps to create a 44" x 28" map of the South Pacific, four Allied/Japanese operations cards, three player aid cards, and two log sheets.

4 Conversion table to pass from Battleline to Avalon Hill hex codes
One of the differences between the Battleline and Avalon Hill revised edition is in the identification codes of the hexes of the map. When you play face to face you don't need it, but when you gamemaster through e-mail you can have to deal with people using both editions, so you will need this.

I created these table to put all together the published ships info so as I don't have to go around the rules, articles and tables to find them. They are in simple black and white for an easy printing. As usual, if you like it give it a thumb up and, if you wish, drop a comment with your observations.

9 Register of planes on present on a Bases
This is the last of the tables that I developed while running the Indian Ocean Raid, so it is the one less experimented, and may be I will change it when I will use it next time. Here is to show you a new tool to use in game mastering. It can even be useful when you close a gaming evening and put the game away. You register here the situation and you are ready to start again at the next session. As usual, if you like it give it a thumb up and, if you wish, drop a comment with your observations.

10 Form to manage the cloud movement for game masters
When you game master a Flat Top game you have the problem to manage the weather evolution with the wind direction and the clouds movement. My solution is this table that allows me to pre-roll the weather evolution for a couple of days. I must say that when I had the idea to pre-roll the weather for several days I found that it made me much easier to perform the task. I started by rolling all the stating clouds positions. Then I rolled all the winds' changes for a couple of days, then I moved the clouds, rolling for their fate when it was required. If I saw that I needed a new day I rolled its weather evolution at the 18.00 of the ending day. The file here is in PDF format so as you can print it at your will. When I game mastered the Indian Ocean Raid through e-mails I used the forms...

All set of Game mastered rule declares that the players loose the direct control of all Air Formation during their flight. The problem is how to manage this due aspect of the best way to play Flat Top and C.V. My solution is a derivate of the Air Traffic Control strips. I worked really well in all the game mastered games that I've been involved in. Now it is here for your usage. The file is thought to let you to use it in a convention where you can give it in printed form to the players. When I game mastered the Indian Ocean Raid through e-mails I used the forms in doc format. If you like give it a thumb up and, if you wish, drop a comment with your observations.

3 GM aid in EXCEL - sheet of dice rolls
This file is intended to help anyone who needs a ready-made list of six-sided die roll results. It is meant to be printed out double-sided. The first worksheet is Letter Portrait and the second is Letter Landscape. Both have 1 cm margins all around. At the bottom left of each number array is the average result, just in case you want to see if it is close to 3.5. This is placed outside the printed area.
