Description Edit | History

(from the back of the box:)

RUSSIAN CAMPAIGN has been universally acclaimed as one of the finest wargames around. With the ease and playability of the 'Classics', the game also conveys the feel of the actual campaign and is exceptionally accurate historically. Both players will have to use the subtle skills, advantages and tactics of their historical counterparts to win.

Game features include rail movement, sea movement, invasions, stukas, partisans, automatic victory, SS units, sudden death victory conditions, and double impulse movement capabilities. Seven scenarios break the total campaign down into its most important battles.

A 22" x 28" mapboard, various playing aids and charts, and a twelve page rulebook. On every gamer's top ten list, this one belongs in every gamer's library.

AVALON HILL COMPLEXITY RATING: 4 (On a scale of 1-easy; 10-hard)

Expanded by Russian Campaign II.

Kokusai-Tsushin Co., Ltd. incorporated changes from Russian Campaign II and republished it first in Command Magazine Japan #33 in 2000. This japanese version was republished a second time as "World War Series" #2 in 2010 (see Russian Campaign II versions list).

Revised as The Russian Campaign (fourth edition).

From "The Avalon Hill General Index and Company History, 1952-1980"

The Russian Campaign (1976) Revised 1977, Revised 1978
Avalon Hill revised existing published design
Designed by John Edwards
Development by Don Greenwood

TRC was so warmly embraced by competition-oriented gamers that it soon drove STALINGRAD from the retail shelves. Like ‘GRAD before it, however, TRC never enjoyed outstanding sales figures. Richard Hamblen handled the third edition rules which include meaningful changes to the rulebook, plus expanded scenarios, and his own variant for TRC. The variant proposes additional counter which are included in the current counter sheets.

3 The Russian Campaign German Order of Battle
I lost some counters for my 3rd edition game some time ago and decided to make a replacement set. I also made Orders of Battle that match the counter sets. Keep playing those classics. :)

9 The Russian Campaign-variant
A complete revision firmly based on the third edition. A more historical emphasis, and less prone to a draw in the campaign game, but retaining the character of the original game.

12 Yet Another Replacement Counter Set
I created these counters using Inkscape and Pelle Nilsson's counter extensions. They are laid out so that the file can be printed and cut by Andrew Tullsen at Print and Play Productions. I ordered a set after I created these and they look terrific.
