First published in 1990, the game has since been reprinted in a more reasonably-sized box. Aggressively marketed, it is still in print.
«Do you like Monopoly? Do you like Risk? Then you'll love Cargo Wars!»
«Enter the world of international shipping and piracy on the high seas! Players compete as each attempts to corner global shipping [...] Pirate contracts abound as players smuggle contraband in an attempt to increase cash flow.»
The game owes a lot to Rail Baron and is also a distant relative of Pirate and Traveler. The shipping lanes are progressively bought out as one completes pick-up-and-deliver contracts, with the added twist that some contracts (more lucrative) are "illegal" --other players may attempt to run you down for a bounty. Like in Rail Baron, you must get back to your "home city" to win --again with other players attempting to run you down as you do so.
