Description Edit | History

Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) Starter Kit #1 teaches new players the basic concepts of the major Infantry and Terrain rules from Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) by using an abbreviated and illustrated rulebook.

The ASL Starter Kit #1 is a stand-alone game, with six scenarios that require only the maps and counters provided in the module. The two mapboards that are included also work with both Squad Leader and Advanced Squad Leader (ASL), and the scenarios can be played using full Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) rules if desired.

Contents:

  • One sheet of die-cut playing pieces
  • Three scenario cards with six infantry-only scenarios
  • Two 8"x22" Geomorphic mapboards mounted on heavy cardstock
  • Twelve page Illustrated rulebook
  • Two dice

Time Scale: Two minutes per turn
Unit Scale: Individual men, half-squads, and squads
Players: Two
Playing Time: Up to 4 hours per scenario
Complexity: Medium
Solitaire Suitability: High

Note: Rules for large guns and tanks are not covered in the first starter kit, but are developed in the later starter kits:

2 SK Explained with lots of pictures v1.0
An old project when I was helping out newbies. Goal is to get you "into the game" with minimal amount of rules & jargon. I later add to & modify these rules so that you will be playing the first scenario with everything in mind. Ver1.0

15 Jay Richardsons ASL Starter Kit tutorials properly typeset for printing
The famous ASL Starter Kit tutorials by Jay Richardson. This version has extensive text formatting for easier reading, a table of contents and a glossary. The text is laid out such that the 135 page document can be printed on A4 as well as Letter sized paper. It is laid out for double sided printing. Images are still the low resolution versions found here on the geek. This version is proofread and approved by the original author.

3 Starter Kit 1-3 Plano labels
The labels are designed for Plano 3701 trays, with this layout you can organize counters from all 3 Starter Kits into 2 trays. I'd recommend printing on both sides of a legal size 8.5x14" paper and taping to the inside of the tray lid with double sided tape. I'll post a photo of the results as soon as possible.
