Charles Joshua Chaplin (June 8, 1825 - January 30, 1891) was a French painter and engraver. Born in Les Andelys, France, to an English father and a French mother, he conducted art classes for women. Two of his famous student include the American artist Mary Cassatt and the English artist Louise Jopling.
His painting, "Le Loto" was used for the cover illustration of the Revised Edition of Board And Table Games From Many Civilizations.
Note: This is not same person as the artist Charles Chaplin (1907-1987), an English engraver and printmaker, the very popular English silent film comic actor Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin (1889-1977), or Charles Chaplin (1759-1816) or Charles Chaplin (1786-1859), two British members of Parliament.
