John Augustus Knapp (1853 - 1938) is a famous occult artist. He is known for designing Tarot cards with Manly P. Hall, the director of the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles with each card copyrighted by J. A. Knapp. He was born and raised in Newport, Kentucky, and studied at the McMicken School of Design in Cincinnati. Knapp held various positions as a designer and lithographer at Russell Morgan Lithograph which later become the U.S. Playing Card Company. He also participated in the movie industry.
He died in Los Angeles in 1938.
