Bruce Campbell Shelley is an American game designer and writer who is most famously known as the computer game designer who helped design games such as Sid Meier's Civilization, Railroad Tycoon, and Age of Empires. In 1980, he and several of his friends at the University of Virginia formed the game company Iron Crown Enterprises. Strategy and Tactics Magazine published his first game in the early 1980s. In 1981, he briefly worked for SPI (Simulations Publications, Inc.). He then worked for Avalon Hill, contributing to such classic games as 1830: Railways & Robber Barons and Titan. He has also worked as assistant designer for Sid Meier at MicroProse. In 2002, GameSpy named him the 8th most influential person in gaming. In 2008, he became the 12th inductee to the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences Hall Of Fame. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, founded in 1996, is a non-profit organization that promotes computer and video game entertainment.
