I love playing it and love thinking about new scenarios. I feel a little guilty when I waggling my box at the others in my game group, but they occasionally demure :-)

This is a great game! Very simple to learn and has a great feel to the semi-cooperative experience. I also love the fact that it plays well solo, or multi-player.

One of my favorite work placements. Beats Agricola to the table because it is easier to teach and bit more forgiving with the play - despite having the same worker placement tension. Not quite at Agricola level though for love.
May get there when I have a chance to play some of the scenarios.

Only had one two player game so have resisted the urge to mark Snowdonia a 10. But yes, it's that good and I feel sure that future plays will lead me to take it up a notch. The only thing wrong with the game is the cloth bag - it's too narrow so becomes a bit fiddly searching for the correct cubes. A well themed placement game with multiple scoring routes and lots to think about. A tremendous achievement and my favourite of my Essen games so far.

Update - this is tremendous - and so it goes up to a 10. Had a great 2 player game the other night - knew it was close and decided to close the game early and won by just one point with 123. Nailbiting. Really can't praise this game enough.

I have upped my initial rating from 9 to 10. This is such a great game. One of my first 'worker placement'-style games, and one that can be played solo which is an added bonus(and a necessity for me).

Nice workerplacement game with a lovely theme. In the whole of workerplacement games this one jumps out, because it plays different. Mostly an extra worker is better for the rest of the game, here you have to work hard to maintain that extra worker.

Will become one of my favourite games of 2012

With all the superb expansions this has now hit a ten for me from the original 9 - want to play more and despite the slew of new games coming or just arrived this will still hit the table more. Likely to be one of the only 10 games in 2014 for me

Mechanically balanced on a razor's edge.

The event track pivots the tactical situation with each occurrence, pushing the game along, ensuring play never gets bogged down. The weather and contract cards open up different strategies during every game.

Solo play is amazingly engaging compared to most. Versatile set of minimalist expansions can simply and effectively change the strategic nature of the game for even more variety.

Snowdonia, you may hide you're sexy, but you will always be among my goto games!

This is a great worker placement game ! It works nicely and you really feel as if you were laying tracks and building stations. Two variants of building cards is a nice addition.

Gripped with a 'gotta have it all' sense about the scenarios. A wonderful game - elegant and filled with interesting choices that get even more interesting as the unique game engine chugs forward at greater and greater speed.

Excellent game!

The way the worker placement is handled is unique and really makes you consider not only what action to choose but also which of the numbered spots within that action space to choose. Sometimes, you really want to excavate 2nd, but what if an opponent excavates first with a contract card that lets them do so at double the work rate? Do I really need that coal from the stockyard, or do I need to be first player next turn? The choices here are just lovely!

The theme is very charming I think. I am sure some will find it dry, but I personally prefer a little more mundane theme most of the time (instead of fantasy/space themes for example). I think the game mechanics and the theme work very well together, and I love that I constantly have to drag one of my workers out of the pub.

The weather and the event cube mechanics provide a great deal of variety. I have played games where we had fog for several rounds in a row, and I have played games where the weather was sunny and the event cubes were rarely drawn. In this regard (much like reality), the game is a bit unpredictable, and so you will need to adapt your long term plans according to the draw of weather and events. The Blaenau Ffestiniog game (on the backs of the standard station cards) provides even more variety within the base game, not to mention the various expansions available (which I plan to get soon).

I have played with 2 and 4 players, and it worked equally well with both player counts in my opinion. Higher player counts will make the game run a bit longer, but not too much since the extra workers will cause the track to be laid a bit faster (i.e., a couple of pieces of track per round instead of just 1 per round in 2 player games). I have not tried the game with other player counts yet, but I expect it works well with 3 and might be just a bit worse with 5.

I also love the weight of this game as its not so complicated to teach but still has plenty of depth for experienced players. For this reason, it has surpassed Agricola as my favorite game. I look forward to many years of track laying fun!

Played this twice (solo) in order to get the rules down, and I must admit that this is a light but complex Euro. I must say that I enjoyed it, but didn't find it to be anything particularly special -- yet.

There are areas that remain untapped, however... thus the reticence to deliver anything final about the game from my personal perspective. The key point is that it was enjoyable. That's what counts.

9/6/2013: Probably have 20 plays under my belt (solo only, surprisingly). This is a fantastic game with a variable timer element that is delightfully frustrating. I have to say that this is quite the interesting little title, and I see both simplicity and depth at the same time.

I find the game reminds me of Finca. The theme is benign, there is just enough uncertainty (weather and blind cube draw) to provide some "thrills and chills," and plays in under an hour. A beautiful title.

Love this game. At its core it's fairly simple and straight-forward worker placement. But the contracts, events and weather systems really make this an under-appreciated gem imho.

Super simple (and thematic!) mechanics and great fast gameplay. This game got me into "digging" train games! Bonus points for that. cool

Also, has a nice solo "beat your score" campaign.

Really excellent worker placement game. It scores over other, slightly more pedestrian, games in several ways: firstly, it is slightly cheaper, and secondly, it has the title "Snowdonia" printed on the cover in big, friendly letters.

Seriously, it's a fantastic game. One of the best - if not THE best - of 2012. It plays quickly - rarely as long as 90 minutes, more usually around the hour mark. There is lots of variety in the game - with variable weather having a big effect on the game and the different contract cards which might or might not show up, plus the timing of the event track (which can see the game system building most of the track and stations if the players prevaricate too much), I've not had two games play out the same way. But that variability does not add any complexity - the rules are straightforward and easily grasped. And my copy had Ivor the Engine in the box. Ivor the Engine! It doesn't get much better (maybe Bagpuss in a game about collecting rare items, or the Clangers in a game about moon exploration, but I bet nobody has the bottle to deliver such delights).
