A really fine abstract strategy/tactics game with the added luck factor of drawing tiles. High production values too - I just love these bakelite pieces!

Nice clacky L-shaped tiles with various color combinations on the 3 squares of each tile. (which don't stack quite as perfectly as they look like they should) with a Taluva-ish rule that you can cover existing tiles, if you cover at least 2, not just 1. The restriction that you can't cover one player's color with the other player's color is good and works. (There is a 3rd neutral color.)

Score = size of connected group * maximum height of the group, for your single best group.

The standard game has you play tiles in a random order. There are several variants. We were surprised there was no pure strategy variant, i.e. simply choose which piece you want (like Blokus, Quads, Zaic, etc). We tried playing with choice (no randomness) and it seems to work as well!

NOTE!!! There IS a luckless variant! It's just mistranslated into a random variant in the English and Polish rules! See my thread about the mistranslated variant.

Easy to explain abstract game that uses height in a nice way. Try to create the largest and talles area of your colour. Both player use equivalent set of pieces. Nice materials.

at first it doesnt seem worth of playing but stratopolis is a simple game with interesting aspects of building and conquering and cutting ur opponent domains.
a nasty problem is the setup (dividing the tiles is boring and seeing black numbers on black tiles is difficult) and the production is somehow wrong because it is difficult to see the shape of the pieces already placed in order to avoid putting another piece precisely on them. hence, a lower rating

The game is fine - it's the box : ) We just store everything in the enclosed bag. Good for $20; wouldn't pay $50. In Gigamic style, the pieces are very good quality plastic.

I'm interested in reports on how this plays. It looks like a game I could get really into.

seems like a fun game, but requires some setup time.
