It pretty much says it all that the game was originally something about a Renaissance city with magister and burgomeisters or whatever running around. I had an opportunity to play a prototype and although it was admittedly pretty cool to play a game that Knizia made with his own hands (or at least dictated to someone else's hands) but the result was a boring, turgid Euro with little or no new ideas. What's really odd is that the game played MUCH more like a Kramer game than a Knizia game. Area majorities, action points, scoring rounds, etc. The theme promised by "Adventure League" sounds great, but there is literally not a single mechanic or game concept that specifically features or illuminates that theme. And I thought this guy designed from the theme up?
