From the rules it doesn't sound like there's much going on. You simply try to create large connected groups of like flowers, drawing the "domino"-type tiles one at a time. There's a shared center area that both players can use, and the back side of the tiles are "weeds" which you can place on your opponent's side of the board up to three times during the game to get a little garden war going.

Sounds kind of dull, and in fact the early moves aren't entirely interesting. However, it turns out there are a lot of considerations to be made as the board begins to fill. For example, you get one point for a group of 3–5 flowers, two points for a group of 6–9 flowers, and 4 points for a group of 10 or more flowers. A group of three is easy, but as the board fills, due to the spacial limitations, you need to recognize when a group simply cannot be pushed to the next level, and just give up on it. Likewise, you need to watch for areas on your opponent's side of the board where you can place weeds to prevent them from hitting 10.

Furthermore, if you run out of places to play first, your opponent can keep going, so you're going to want to play into the shared area and use that space for your own purposes before your opponent does, which keeps your side open for later.

I suspect that with more plays, the simple beauty of the game will emerge. Not a perfect-information abstract, but still a great two-player contest. A shame it's so long out of print and hard to acquire.

A nice light 2-player game. One of the favorite quick games of my wife and I. Not sure why I like it so much as it is very abstract, but I do enjoy trying to optimize the patterns of my flowers. Effective use of the neutral zone (makes me think of Star Trek) is essential to good play.

Enjoyable two player tile placement game. Most of the game is a solitaire optimization puzzle wherein you're trying to place each tile in a way to form orthogonal chains of like-flowers. Where the game shines, however, is the middle of the board that is shared between the two players and since space is very valuable it can be used to expand your gardens, take over other gardens (hard to do) or block your opponent. Additionally, you can use two of your moves to place an overturned tile in your opponents garden creating a dead space. These weeds should be placed to block the growth of your opponents chains (or keep him from connecting two chains). The timing and placement of the weed actions are key to winning against a worthy gardening foe.

A pleasant and non-taxing game with just enough tactics and planning to keep me interested. This is a good choice to play with non-gamers, especially women. Smaller beds are usually better than larger ones.

This is effectively dominoes with flowers replacing the numbers. The goal is to build sting of flowers to score points. The tension, which I didn't understand at first is the middle of the board which is shared. The player owned areas are insufficient. Play until no one can play anymore and then score you chains.

Extremely simple, but there's something addictive about this game that I can't describe, something primal, some instinctual force inside me that drives me to match similar flowers!
