A very interesting system with exciting topic.
The only problem is being very time-cosuming.

I found this game to be quite enjoyable to play. It presents the topic of the Burma Campaign, with a focus on the air aspect. All the systems are fairly easy to learn and play. The Japanese player has to endeavor to push his advance using the air to assist. It is easy to get a draw (Historical result) but harder to get the Japanese Victory. I like the easy to play Aerial combat which determines aerial mission success. or failure.

A true innovation that deserved its Charles Roberts Award. The focus is on the air war over Burma in 1941, but the interaction with ground forces is important, and the air battle resolution may not be filled with minute detail, but it tell's you a lot about why air missions were air missions were planned the way they were.

Nifty concept, victory conditions skewed a bit to the Allies (tweak at your leisure). Makes a GREAT WWII air combat scenario generator for your favorite air combat system. A hearty "attaboy" to my old high school classmate, Mr. Rohrbaugh.

Ground-breaking graphics almost always mark ATO games, and this is particularly true here. Very good map incorporates an interesting blend of land and sky aspects. Counters are large and clear. It plays well, but you do have to think very differently from the "normal" war game. (All to the good!) Not easily playable solitaire, however.

Rating improvement - the more I play it, the more I like it.

A reasonably simple game on a previously untouched subject. With the clarifications in place I'm a happier guy. See my Q and A submissions.

It is a very playable fun, game, with a few rules problems (see Q & As). The mechanics are straight forward and overtly simple although there are a lot of rules for different aspects of the game.

To accomplish anything players are forced into action right away which is good. There are many subtleties to the playing of the game and the first playing will no doubt be wrought with errors on both sides. By the second or third playings strategies will improve.

I like the game. The things I like less are:

1. The combat mechanics are over simplified and distort the realities of air combat.
2. The rules are uninviting and take several read throughs to grasp both the objective of play and how the various rules work.

Example: it is not readily apparant that AC can be in the "flown" box of an airbase and still fly.

3. The counters are functional - but cluttered and the AC counter art is uninviting to me.

Then again - I'm an air game grognard so I'm quite picky. It is highly playable and once the rules are grasped it plays quickly.

A higher than usual rating than average because it gave such a good initial impression to me. A very interesting game concept and mechanic whereas the air and land campaigns in the same theatre are combined with a same set of rules. The map is divided into an aerial and land. Kind of seeing the planes flying high up while the counters on the land are being pushed around. The rules are easy to read and absorb. ATO is getting better and better. A bonus is an additional map for the past game "Kesselschlacht", a game and counters which I do not have. I guess they want me to get a copy of the reprint...

A new and interesting design. The first few dogfights are really cool, but too long when not used to the system and get repetitive at some point. There is something in this game and I have to give it another try.
