Nostalgia favorite; I bought this when it was released many years ago. This is a very good multi-player negotiation/conquest game. Its only drawback is ambiguity in some of the region borders on the map.

First learned to play this with my late father and my two older brothers back in the early to mid-1970s. Fun game and would love to play it again ... if I could anyone willing to play it with me.

Well, I'm afraid it'll have to wait. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman round here?

Just bought this game and haven't played it since the late '70s. I am hoping it holds up to my memories of the game which is a slightly kinder, genetler and more cerebral Risk game where players compete for control of provinces in China (Thus the name eh?)

The first time I saw a game with a "random ending time," meaning that the players didn't know when it was going to end.

I remember playing this game many years ago and had fun every session, even though I lost! It was the first game I ran into where a card is added to the deck on the reshuffle and drawing that card ends the game. Could use a better combat resolution.

Quick to play, light, entertaining end of the evening game. Game ends when Mandate of Heaven card is turned up - merge two games to make a longer-lasting version.

Simple mechanics. The "Risk" of the Orient. Fairly quick play. A lot of the diplomacy talk is silly. Nearly everyone I know plays the moves and invasions as if they were playing "Risk".

Haven't played in a long time (almost thirty years!) , but as I recall, I always felt this game was a better Risk than Risk itself was.
Played pre-BGG.

I suspect I would've liked this game much better had I come upon it in the '80s. I bought it in a game auction
in the late '90s, and it left me cold, which was too bad, as I like the concept and the uncommon setting.

Bought this game at the BX and it was pretty cool back in 1974. A "Euro-style" game before the term was invented. Negotiation is a better tool than war in this game because war is so costly to both sides.

Very Risk-like with heavy dependence on Yang cards to obtain reinforcements and permit the crossing of geographical barriers. Yin cards are just a standard one unit loss per turn if played on a province that is left with only one unit by design. Like AH Civilization, combat is just a way to hurt the combatant's positions relative to the other players. Need at least 4 of the possible 5 players for negotiation to become essential due to lack of space. Overall largely dominated by random factors, it is much easier to lose the game than carrying out any plan to win it. The game ends when the 32nd Yang card (The Mandate of Heaven) is drawn. Since each player starts the game by drawing one and then draws one every turn, the game is very short.

This looks like a game with a lot of potential. It has the abstraction of Risk or Diplomacy with event cards thrown in - Yin cards and Yang cards.

Fun light wargame. We abused the surrender option a lot in High School and would each surrender to the other in order to beat up on Chris, the one remaining player. Game after game. We kept swearing that we weren't going to do it again, and we kept on doing it every game for a couple of weeks. Until finally the laws of large numbers caught up with us and Chris's miniscule force annihilated our united horde in a game. Why, oh why, did I have to be in command when it happened?
