I know this game as Ludo. This is the first board game I ever played back in Liberia. All during the war, this and Monopoly kept our family having some normalcy.

My copy is a tiny wooden version for 4 players, made by Lagoon Games. It looks great. I love Trouble/Aggravation/Parcheesi.

The best of the dice/race games for more than two players. The classic toy store Parcheesi rules are better than Sorry, Trouble,Aggravation, etc. Lots of luck involved, but plenty of defensive strategy, and maximizing use of even poor dice rolls makes all the difference...

There's a lot more to this game than meets the eye. I have found over the years that adults tend to reject it based on childhood memories. It is a terrific four-player game, or a three-player with The Rogue Variant described by me below. Yes, luck is involved, but like many games, it entails working well with the hand you're dealt. Most people don;t seem to recall the special rules related to rolling "doubles" in this game; to wit, when you do (assuming all pieces are out of starting space and onto board), you get both the tops and the bottoms of the die.

Very popular in Vietnam where it is known in Vietnamese literally as 'kick horse' but is translated into English as 'horse chess'. Knights are used as counters and the player 'kicks' his opponents pieces out of the way.
This game is very much underrated in the west because the western variants reduce the tactical play and make it a children's game.

Pachisi is a kid's game with simple rules and potentially complex player interactions.

Roll-and-move? Well, yes, it has the roll-and-move mechanic, but it is not the roll-and-then-have-to-move of Candy Land or Monopoly. This is the roll-and-then-have-to-decide-how-to-move of Backgammon.

Backgammon and Pachisi are clearly closely related. Pachisi has simpler rules and accommodates multiple players.

Pachisi is a game best played with 4 people who are kids or fun-spirited adults. This game teaches young players how to play with take-that, with negotiating, with shifting alliances, and with partners (an occasional house rule).

Years ago, when touring the West Orange home of Thomas Edison, I found it interesting that Pachisi was prominently displayed in the second floor family room. Our guide commented that Edison greatly enjoyed playing Pachisi with his family and that he enjoyed making up house rules when playing games (hey, house rules are OK, too).

I don't care if Tom Vasel doesn't like this game. He doesn't own it, and I bet he's never played it with his kids. I have (with mine, not his), and it's fun.

Gets a eight (8) for it's longevity through the ages, and the original partnership Pachisi game. Modern versions incluse Parcheesi and Ludo. Father of many games including Trouble (Pachisi with a bubble), Sorry! (Pachisi with cards), and Aggravation (Pachisi for six with marbles).

I love this game. Any game where my son (7) can surprise me is something I can get behind. It is the thinking man's Sorry. It gives you roll and move, but the decision on how to use your dice combined with the blockade dynamic provide you some deeper planning.

Yes it's a roll and move game, but you have options of which of your 4 pawns will you move, and how far. Will you move to safety or to capture? This offers more choices than your average department store trash, such that this game can actually provide an evening of fun interaction. A good game over coffee and dessert.

A much better game than commonly acknowledged. Even compared to serious games, it's respectable, and it's way better than the crappy gimmicky kids board games it's commonly grouped with. ¶ We had the classic board, which I think looks way cooler than the redesigns. On the back was something called "Le Jeu Joli", a variant board, shaped in tiers going toward the center, sort of like in Talisman. It was OK for occasionally variety, but definitely inferior to real Pachisi.

This game takes me a long way back to my childhood. And yet, it still feels great, most games go to the last rolls to decide who the winner is. Luck-prone to say the least, tho very fun to play with players of all ages and experience in boardgames.
