This one is Knizia's version of a "take that" game, and it's brillant. It's pure manipulations and situation reversals. In just 30 minutes!!

I like Poison a lot, and this is quite similar... except, instead of Cauldrons that have color in them, each player becomes a color. This game has some incredible strategic elements, and each player's playing style really affects the play of the game. After just a few plays it has become one I think we will drag out quite often. One-page-directions-games always are attractive ones for the game club.

To be a cardgame its at least a 9! Fun theme, and you try to hurt the leader, if you can, and that makes no-one to be good in this game. Everyone can win. A good Knizia game. Recomended!

I really, really enjoyed this, and it felt like a "reverse Poison" card game - or perhaps, instead of various cauldrons boiling in the center of the table, each player is their own cauldron. Quick, simply dynamics, and fun gameplay. The variable length road sections are the only real problem - it's virtually impossible to "randomly" draw them before the game for each round, since their physical size impacts how you pull them out of the bag, so you tend to get clumps of road about the same length.

A pleasent little card game with more thought needed than the rules suggest. Certainly it's not going to compete with heavy trick taking games, but it is geared towards families and that 30 minute game slot when you want something with more meat than Coloretto or King's Breakfast. The scoring system is a little funky and does not really match the pasted on theme well. It could have been simplified by using cards or numbered scoring chips. Try it if you like Knizia's Too Many Cooks or Poison.

Quick game. Some (moderate) thinking and memorization is useful in order to win.

New players can be put off by a the fact that the winner of the last (3rd) round gets a big advantage (carpet swapping). However, more seasoned players can recognize the importance of teaming so as to make the trailing player win the last 3rd (since he is not such a big threat even if he wins the special 3rd turn). Thus, the "carpet swapping" rule is a two-edged sword: it makes luck more prominent in games between newbies, while it adds more flavor in games between more seasoned players.

I appreciate the direct confrontation between players.

A similar but richer game is Iliade (especially when played in teams).

I like this game alot. I don't see a problem with the swapping of tiles at the end like most do, because that person may actually wind up with a longer tile than he originally had. The game plays quick and is easy to learn. A nice filler that everyone can enjoy.

Kind of a take-that form of Poison with an over-complicated scoring mechanism. A bit of a laugh, though - as long as you're not expecting deep strategic opportunities.

Players play cards against themselves or an opponent. Cards are valued 1-3, and once committed to a suit, no other suit can be played against that player. Game play continues until someone has a total of 6 points in front of them, which means they collect all cards played. At the end of a round, lengths of road (really) are awarded to the players with the most cards - which is to be avoided. Longest road at the end of three rounds loses. Good game - better than I was expecting, where tracking cards (especially the 2/3's) is vital. Reminded me a bit of the Trendy group-think, but this is deeper and better, I suspect.

More fun the more players you have, but don't have too much emotional investment in the win as players can be targetted and the game can be decided on personalities. The swing for the last round winner seems overly decisive.

Fun, easy take that kind of game. I like this a bit more than Poison, which is a similar type of game. The rule that allows the winner of the third round to exchange his longest piece for the shortest available in the round seems a bit too powerful. I like the idea of changing the rules a bit so that there is a road tile pulled for every player each round. The exception to this would be if you have 6 players since there are only 15 road tiles.

Hmm, this was one game which seemed interesting and charming on paper (how many games are decided by the shortest road?) but on the table didn't play out as imagined with four players. There is some interesting card counting and decision as to which card to play either on oneself or someone else, with the aim to avoid picking up cards or target someone. However, there seems to be no apparent control to achieve that aim because of the freedom to play cards on whoever and the effect of the ring-around-the-rosy cards. I don't mind alittle chaos, but I'm not keen on the mechanics where players can 'play' for you i.e. Formula Motor Racing, Top Race etc. It maybe requires a group effort to rein in the leader, as by the second round it was obvious who would win; the session was fun as players eagerly played out of turn to pin someone, but of the "Knizia's trilogy of gaming elements"TM (in this case "valued pots") I would ranked this variant below Poison and Too Many Cooks. Update: Now played with 5 with some cunning plays becoming apparent, so have upped the rating; similar feel to Trendy in that it requires the cooperation and the game is very dependent on how the others play, and so is alittle fragile to kingmaking.

The game is pretty simple and fun at first, but I find it is a little bit too long for what it is. The first two rounds are fun, but then by the third one it gets a little repetitive and since usually by then only two people have a chance to win, it gets dull for the others. A decent game to try, but there are many others out there that I would prefer to play.

Similar to Poison, but not as good: since you lay the cards in front of the players, the decisions are often obvious -and you don't have the "get the majority in one colour" option.

This card game uses colored and numbered cards which can be played on your pile, or other players' piles, such that when any player's pile (every pile must be a different color) reaches 6 or above, they have to take all the cards in ALL the stacks.

The "eating" player leads next. At the end of the round, the player who has eaten the most cards, takes the longest road segment, and the player who takes the second most, the second longest road segment, and so on. After three rounds, the player with the shortest total road length wins.

I am not sure where the interesting game is here, as Figaro felt simplistic and merely "take that" in its mechanics. But then again, the special rule which allows a player to simply take all the cards, in all the piles when it is the player's turn, rather than playing a card, might conceivably be the secret to making this game interesting. Combining this approach, with counting cards, might make this game more interesting. Bottom line: for me, this game really feels like a 6 at best.
