Hugely underrated game. Propably because of the orginal rulebook which is terrible. The game is excellent once learned. Try looking for alternative rulesbooks in the files section.

Typical alea game. Should appeal to most people who liked all the big ones.

My cup of (auction) game: few yet painful decisions. Incredibly robust against radically different strategies, that all end up in the same scoring range.

Interesting auction game having original rules and which involves both strategy and tactics. My kind of game, gets better and better the more you play it.

A quick scan of the rules gave me the impression of just more of the usual: auctions, money, victory points and so on. Coupled with the strange premise of the game - all players are Jakob Fugger, but some more than others - my interest was rather low.
Discovering a tense and manylayered knifefight of a game was therefore even more of a pleasant surprise, and it even works well with just two players.
See my review.

Played 10+ times.

Easy to figure out the rules. I played 2 player with about 4 lookups in the beginning, and then it all made sense. Kind of like GOA in the thinking involved, except GOA has one step more instead of earning from just having the tiles, you have to use the ability. A few times I felt like I was playing a small GOA game, and I wanted to get prestige points just for using the ability of the prestige tiles, but that is another game. I liked this game. Not a lot new, but not a lot is anymore. It took two mechanics maybe three of well-used notoriety and put it together nicely. It has a fun-factor. Short like mykerinos, but I felt I had accomplished more in the same time-frame.

The first time I played this game, I played a variant (without myself and others knowing about it), and won the game. This variant involved the losing players losing their cards played as well as the first place player. Everyone involved considered the game very cutthroat and so I was surpised when the second group didn't think so. However, I really liked the game. The real game I played was very different including get 300 extra gold when upgrading on the gold track and getting 100 gold or taking a point when losing your upgrde to another player. This game involved a completely different strategy. I have to play it again to comment further but at this point I liked the "variant" slightly better.

Many things to like - the bidding mechanism, with the balancing of quantity vs value of cards, the little bonuses to make it worth your while bidding up and calling your opponents, the timing issues of the 5-auction sequence and the chances of taking & retaking certain tiles, the need to buy Church & Cathedral (but as late as possible to minimise the cost). Not convinced of the benefits of the Offices track.

Great auction game with a unique mechanism for auction (number of cards and then higher number to break ties). It has a lot of check and balances. It plays great and it is fast after people get familiar with their personal board. Simply great!!!
