A great simple euro with nice components. Resembles pickomino considering the dice group mechanism. Lots of hidden strategies inside this little diamond!

Great game that uses dice-rolling in a whole new way. The dice determine what actions are available and how many times each of them can be taken. Players choose how to try and grab points, and there seem to be more than one viable path to getting piles of points. Excellent game for a quick play.

So far have only played with 2 players, but really enjoying it. Nice range of strategies available, and I really like games that use dice in the way they're used here (Kingsburg is another that comes to mind). Very cute little wooden camels too!

One of the best in the year of its release. Very cool use of dice for deciding available actions, and I think that mechanic sells it. If I'm gonna have buckets of dice in my games, this is how I want them to work.

But there's a good game here, too. Lots of paths to victory. (I'm told the caravan strategy is a game-winner every time, but I haven't seen anyone pull it off.) Yspahan is a favorite with our group.

I can see why people like this. Fairly simple to play, but there's a lot going on to keep track of. I suspect that this game is a little too ephemeral to hold my affections for long, but at the moment I love it.

Wonderful dice game that manages to have lots of options and still remain fast & breezy. With all of those choices, this is more of a gamer's dice game than a family dice game, but in that respect it succeeds. You see people win with various strategies, which is always a good thing. To some extent you need to adopt your strategy to the way the dice roll, but less than in other dice games. You really can go into this one thinking you're going to pursue the caravan strategy, or the building/upgrade strategy, or the city strategy, etc.

Played with gamers at Great Hall Games. A good combination of luck and strategy. There are three paths to victory -- caravan, markets, tech upgrades, cards, or some combination.

Very good, with sensible dice rolling, but I think there is a definite game winning plan so not so good for multi playing.

A nice light game with pretty good depth of strategy for such a light game. Too bad it isn't priced like a light game! A little expensive in my opinion.

Yspahan is a solid family style game. The dice action in the game gives the game a good crossover appeal to those gamers brought up on simple, luck filled games yet there is enough to think about that the Euro influences can clearly be felt.

I do like the game as it plays quickly once you get into the flow. There is a bit of a thought though that the game is a bit simplistic... maybe that's not necessarily a bad thing in terms of the rule set and the game play itself but in terms of the actual strategic/tactical decision making there is a slight niggling feeling of "is that it?" sometimes. Depending on the roll of the dice the decisions are somewhat dictated to you by what quantity of dice are currently the most plentiful when it happens to be your turn. There certainly is some luck in the game but that can be dealt with to some extent by choices you make in trying to build up your weaknesses by playing to your strengths... a common feature in many Euro games... and one that can be felt in the mechanisms of Yspahan as well.

All in all this isn't a game I would say is quite at the level of top tier games but it IS a good solid family oriented game playable really with almost all ages and for that it deserves a bit of extra credit. A solid 7 rating for now and that could probably climb a half point or so with further play.
