Played my first game Saturday with five players. As said before, you can't do everything but even when you're 'blocked' there are usually other quite good options available. The first go round of capital building purchases should 'urge' you into one of the strategies for victory. (1 free: captain/soldier/missionary/merchant/colonist per turn).Learn how to acquire money each and every turn in order to purchase capital buildings (CB) ideally at least every other turn IMO.I was able to win by getting the Privateer CB ($1/my ship/per other players/turn) and then the Navy CB (3 (?) VP/ship) and the Power CB (2 VP/soldier in the colonies) at the end (five ships and 6 or so soldiers in the colonies. (I started by getting the Inca CB ($20 immediately). None of my CBs had any end game VPs.I only even attempted discovery once in the entire game - in the last turn from the cards (successfully) - so I only received 6 or 7 (?) VPs from discovery.Others thought that the Navy CB was too powerful - of course I begged to differ ;-) - but no one seriously was attempting to win the ships each turn. The next game with experienced players may not permit such a path to victory. One player would prefer a 4 player game next time and tracking victory points on the scoring track as the CB's are purchased and colonies once there are at least 3 colonists. I liked doing it as in the rules - players can alway count 'em up as most everything is public knowledge.

Designers shouldn't rate their own games. I just couldn't help it. I really like this game.
The theme is one of my favorites and permeates the game, making the mechanics very intuitive. The gameplay offers the players many deliciously hard decisions that seem small when taken individually, but add up to success or failure in the long run. The game rewards long-term planning, but rewards flexibility and adaptation to opponents' choices even more. There are many long-term strategies and combinations that can be tried (My favorites are: The Missionary/ Colonizer Strategy; The Captain/ Merchant/ Privateer Strategy; The Conquistador/ Discovery Strategy; The Merchant/ Trader Strategy). Some may work in one situation and not in others. All this adds up to a game that is extremely re-playable and fun.

Wooden cubes or meeples can always be substituted by the players who prefer them, but miniatures actually work best in this design!

WOW... this game is awesome! This may be a "Euro-style" game with cool looking bits in disguise but, this game has tons of strategy avenues and great replay value. This is one of Glenn's "Best" designs up there with CotE 2 in my opinion! Never expected anything less, Glenn! Great Job!!!!

Not as complex as Caylus, but with the same theme of utilizing "workers", in some cases specialized workers, to carry out game functions. Plays smoothly, except for virtually every decision is agonizing!

Outstanding. A little mean with 5 players, but I could see some real potential and had a great time playing.

Great game. I've played twice (2 player and 4 player) and feel like I still have a lot more to explore and learn. I will be playing this many more times in the future.

Unbelievable game from start to finish. It uses the placement mechanic without feeling mechanical. I have a few Eagle games that I just never got into, but this one is different...really different!

Excellent gameplay, great components, and finally a board that fits on the table.

Totally love this game on one play, so it can only go down but I hope it doesnt. It has elements of Leanadro Da Vinci, Puerto Rico and El Grande, but with some interesting and fun ways these elements mix with each other. You go around the table placing workers in areas that represent actions, and for most of them you want to be there first to get the best benefits. One of the actions is sending people to the New World, where the game suddenly feels like El Grande and you are trying to get majority or second majority to score points three times during the game. But you cant move guys into these new world regions until they are opened up by discovering them (another action) which is another way to score points. Lastly, you are also trying to build up an income infrastructure so that you can build buildings with special powers such as extra workers or big end game point getters. Its an exciting blend of three games but with extra elements like uprading your workers to have special abilities for the next turn. This one plays with little downtime and quick decisions, yet it offers a wonderful strategical backbone for scoring points combined with the tactical placement of workers. Add in too many things you want to do on your turn and this one shines with the brightest of them. Oh, and the bits are amazing.

Got to playtest two games with Keith from Eagle Games and while it still needs some tweaking, it looks like a game I will have to buy when it comes out.
Got to play another 2 games with a few tweaks to the game and it looks better and better.
There's a great difference in gameplay between a 4 player game and with 5 or 6 which I think will be a good thing since it'll greatly increase the replayability of the game. However, that could be just because everyone but one player tried a very different strategy in the 4 player game right after playing a 5 player game.
Got in another game with new rules relating to WAR and VPs for economy and it's a HUGE improvement.

Finally played the finished version and the game is a 10! Tough decisions every turn and not enough actions to do everything you want. Scales well between the number of players and easy to learn, but lots of possibilities for strategies and replays.
