I rarely do this but even after just one play I know this is a 10 for me and I doubt it will ever drop.

After several dozen games on-line my rating it a 10 has been confirmed. I love this game and wish I could play it face to face more often. But on-line will have to do. At least I get to play with friends far away who are great opponents.

A really good civ game. I've always liked the idea of civ-style boardgames but found the long playtime prohibitive. These days I don't have an entire weekend to spare. TTA is a really nice balance between depth of play but with a reasonable playtime. You can knock out a game in 4 or 5 hours. The various mechanics for controlling the growth and development of your civilisation are elegant and devlishly tricky to master. There are numerous routes to victory, so it's not all about who has the biggest stick (Freud eat your hear out). If you haven't tried it then I would heartily recommend you do.

Interesting game on civilization development.

Pros: The lack of a map seems to alleviate the usual 3 player game difficulty where the first two players to fight basically hand the game to the third player. The mechanism for worker assignment and resource consumption works very well.

Cons:
1. Very steep learning curve. I would suggest that when teaching new players you play two or three turns and then reset and start the game for real. This would add to the length of the game but it would enable the players to really screw up once without losing their first game by a humiliating margin. A new player should otherwise expect to be in last place and to consider it a victory if he scores more than half of the leader's score.

2. The game defines fiddly. However the many bits used in the game are essential. I do not believe tracks, dials or cards would function properly to deal with the worker placement mechanic. Just be aware that you will screw up at least once when you play the game. I suspect that even experienced players will forget to execute one of the many steps in the advanced game.
