One of the most underrated and under-published games... it came with a special edition of the video game Civ III, and the price was worth it just for the card game. Sad they never published it on it's own... I'd love an expansion or second version that moves on into the next era of development...

Surprisingly great game considering it comes as a video game collection free-be. It doesn't work well with 3 players, but 2 or 4 is perfect. The cards are low-quality, the rules are short, and some of the cards are ambiguous. We had to pencil in a lot of house rules to make the game play better. Everyone I've played with loves it, to the extent that my cards are falling apart now, and I'm mad I can't find another copy except ebay or buying the video game collection again (almost worth it just for the card game).

This is an underrated game. It is actually a very good game. Enough strategy, a lot of simplicity. It is a race to victory. Don't expect a deep game but it is a great diversion into something simple, fast, and fun with nice images on the cards. The 4-player (2 vs 2) is the best set up for the game.

I Always seem to like this game. It is handy to take with you and play a nice emoire building game.mIts not deep, nor does it have elegant battle or building systems in it. Still, for a 'free' game it was a great surprise in how it worked. Call me crazy, but if anyone wants to play it, I'd happily spent the 30 to 45 minutes on this game.

I haven't seen this game for sale in a game store. I bought it as part of the Sid Meier's Civilization Chronicles set of computer games. I had played about 100 games of Civilization II, included in this set, and it includes Civ III (which I haven't played) and Civ IV (which I only looked at the tutorial). But I bought the set primarily to get this card game, and it's pretty good! The quality of the cards is poor, but it's a nice 1-hour civilization card game for up to 4 players. I need to play it again sometime.

We got this game with the Chronicles of Civilization computer game bundle. Actually quite a good game with a decent level of strategy and yes... there is even a general feel of building up a civilization as you play. Of course being a card game... things are abstracted out so that battles, tech advances, battle defenses etc are represented by various cards but certainly the game is quite good at what it does. We've only had one two player game so far but I can say it's not a game to play once and toss aside... which is somewhat surprising for a "freebie" card game included with a computer game. My rating could actually go up a bit if we play again and especially once we play with 3 or 4 to see if this has enough legs to stand up to some repeat play.

Empire-building game with a euro feel. If it weren't for the cheap components and incomplete rules, this game would rate even higher. Imbalanced with 3 players.

A nice surprise - I didn't even know Civ: The card game existed until we played it. Good light fun with just enough of the basic Civ to scratch that itch.

The constant high risk of losing everything in one single move is a bit bothersome (but makes it more similar to wargames than most other board/card games). Otherwise a good game, and it's a shame it's only buyable bundled with all Civ computer games (which I already own).

I have only played 1 two player game of this. It was light and fun enough, but the components are shoddy and fiddly. This could be made as an actual board game, but I think it's too random for it to get great reviews. Given it's short playing time, I didn't mind the cards that could make or break you coming up.

Played once, seems pretty good (note to self - must do a session report). Our group averages out at around 4.5 players so it probably won't get played as often as if it went to 5-6. Slightly disappointly cheap cards but I guess you get what you pay for - it being free!

Keeps the spirit of Civ (and, more particularly Civ4, I guess), and as such is quite fun and expectation-fulfilling.

If there's anything bad to say about it it's the material - somewhat impractical (many cards should have been tokens) and of poor quality. But hey, it's a bonus!

All in all, everything about it screams "prototype we ended up not releasing, so let's print it in some glossy paper and give it away".

A resource management game, where you produce 3 types of commodities (Food, Hammers, Coins). There are no dice, and the randomness of the card draws is somewhat mitigated by the fact that you draw 4 cards, then discard 2 from your entire hand. You can still end up with cards you can't really use.

The "terrain" system revolves around "Plot" cards, which produce 2 resources, or 1-2 types. You may allocate population on each resource, at the cost of 6,8, 10, etc. FOOD per population on the card, and they yield 1 additional resource this plot produces (your choice if there are 2).

Buildings and Wonders are built (Hammers) on the plots, 1 per card, 2 if you have 3 or more population on it. You may purchase additional plots at the cost of 15, 20, 25, etc. resources (of any kind) from the available ones (3 are always displayed/available).

You may also purchase any number of Tech cards, using coins, and they give you a bonus of some sort, as well as 1VP. The tech cards also act as the game clock; as soon as the last one is purchased, the game ends, and VPs are tallied up. Wonder cards are the only other unit which have a VP value.

Like Settlers of Catan, there are two cards which one may control over the course of the game, and those are for the most "Happy faces" and "Culture", and they provide a bonus to the current leading player.

Combat is simplistic but works. Cards are rated for Offensive and/or Defensive action, and act in a rock-paper-scissor fashion. As an example, Archers here are defensive only, but can counter any single opponent card.

You play 1 to n combat cards on your enemy, who then has the option to counter them one by one, as he/she chooses. Non countered units execute their "action", which can be anything from capturing a population to destroying a building (it returns to your hand). Wonders cannot be destroyed, and plots are never stolen.

When there is a choice, the defender chooses which population or building is affected.

Played two-player and liked it (final score was 23 to 21), but think this would be better with 3 or 4, and I would be interested in trying the Team variation.

On the negative side, the game is too long for what it is, but if you are looking for a quick playing "light" Civilization game, this one is good. After all, what's 1-2 hours compared to 12 for Advanced Civilization?
