In my youth I and my friends played Letra-Mix to death, and it never occurred to us that the only three gripes we had was the long idle-time for the other players when one player had to build a crossword puzzle within two minutes or so, the point calculation, and the fact that sometimes you simply could not do anything good with the letters you were given.
Bananagrams takes the basic idea of this game, simplifies it, eliminates all the above issues and creates the (for me) best word tile laying game ever. I will throw away all others I have, I think ...

I've always enjoyed Scrabble, yet the tile management, tile placement, and scoring strategies elude a lot of would be players. Bananagrams retains all of the word sorting fun, awards players for fast word creation, and never relegates a player to certain defeat.

Speed Scrabble! Who can place all their letters first and complete their personal Scrabble structure? This game CAN be discouraging for people who are bad at Scrabble-type games, but I find it does an admirable job of leveling the playing field between masters and casual players. You have to think fast and move fast, and flexibility is a must.

It's not a good feeling when someone makes you pick up five letters in a row, so that you're swimming in unplaced consonants, but then that person might pull an X, get stuck, and lose to someone else entirely. And you might win next game. Each one only takes a few minutes, so why not play a bunch of times?

Let me preface this by saying, I'm a sucker for word games. There is no time of day I won't jump at the chance to play this game. It's like a quick brain warm up when you're feeling slow. I'm certain my husband wishes it would rot into non-existence, just like a real banana (but woo! it won't)

Awesome, awesome, awesome! We changed it so we only played until the first to empty their hand was the winner. This made it much faster and competitive. Great game; Scrabble on speed! Must have for a family game.

The default game at the park/coffeehouse. Both relaxing and tense - it's satisfying rearranging your puzzle to accommodate new letters, but the race factor adds excitement.

Fun an very quick game. Great game to play any time you have one or more friends around and are waiting for others to show up. Also handy for passing the time while waiting in an airport since it does not require an excessive amount of space to play and packs up VERY quickly and compactly.

Excellent. So easy to pull out and start playing. And easy to handicap; someone who is better at word games in general should just silently set themself the additional challenge of only using words of length 3+, or 4+.

For 2-3 players, I also recommend Rootword as a richer but still easy-to-introduce word game.

Excellent! Initial impressions are that this might be even better than Pick Two, because of the nice clacky tiles, the discard one for three rule, and the three letter minimum. Pick Two has way, way more tiles, which can be good or bad (somewhere in between might be best).

This is the same game as the public domain game known as "Take One", "Speed Scrabble", "Mennonite Scrabble" and the published versions known as:
"Take Two", "Syzygy", and several others.

I'm torn about this game. On the one hand, I love the game! It was always one of my favorite childhood games. On the other hand, Bananagrams published it before our company did and that makes me very mad.

Our family called it "Take one" and we used Scrabble tiles to play. I've heard other families call it "Mennonite Scrabble" and "Speed Scrabble". The basic concept is that everyone gets 15 - 20 letter tiles, and creates a Scrabble style crossword as quickly as possible. The rest of the tiles are placed face down in the middle of the table. As soon as anyone has used all of their letter tiles, they yell "take one!" (or in this case they yell "Peel"). Everyone grabs another tile from the center of the table to add into their crossword. This continues until there are not enough tiles for everyone to grab. At this point, the player you yelled "take one" (or "bananas") is the winner.

The game is a lot of fun. There are elements of speed and strategy. Having a large vocabulary is helpful, but not essential.

Every since I started talking about starting a board game company as a senior in high school (in 1986), all of my relatives have hounded me about publishing "Take One". I've heard about it at least 50 times. But Take Two! and Syzygy beat me to the punch and the games did not seem to do very well. Then Bananagrams put it in awesome packaging and did a great job with the business side and it's a run-away hit. Why didn't I think of that?!!

This is the only game my Mom will actively try to get people to play with her! I'll play one or two games an evening with her because I like word games too and the fast and furious pace. This game is fun when you play it with someone who is evenly matched in spelling abilities.

The most popular and most played game with the extended family, especially my mother-in-law. Sure, drawing a Q on the last turn is fatal, but the games are super-quick and we never play just one. Have given half a dozen copies as gifts to people who've enjoyed playing it.
