Nice idea. The cards are a bit slippery.

Commentaires Personnel: Je n'ai pas assez de temps, entre les jeux que je veux essayer et les jeux auxquels j'aime jouer, pour perdre mon temps avec celui-ci. Un bon petit "filer", mais pas mon type.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comments: I don't have enough time with all the games I have to try and the games I love to play to spare some time with this game. Good game, but just not my type.

I so wanted to like this game! It's a trick taking game that accommodates 3-7 players!

Each player has an identical hand of cards, ranging from values 0 (indicated by an asterisk) to 7; they differ only by each player's colour. Each player plays one card to a trick, highest card wins, tied cards cancel out and second highest wins. It's just like Raj except cards are played in turn not simultaneously. So far, so good.

The lower valued cards have a special power that is activated when you play a card. This too sounds good; it's like Chronicle, a recent trick taking game from Japon Brand.

Scoring is a bit strange. You start off with a number of "blasons" or crests that are face-down. Each crest has a colour that corresponds to one of the players. Your score is the sum of cards of a particular color times the number of face-up crests of the corresponding colour you have. The special powers of the cards involve changing ownership of these crests and turning them face-up or face-down.

The joy of trick taking games, to me, is the ability to manipulate your opponents. Most trick taking games force opponents to play the same suit that was led, which adds so much tactical richness to these kinds of games. In Les 7 Blasons, there's no such requirement. You can play any card you please. So this game, because of the special powers on each card, feels more like a simplistic take-that game. There doesn't appear to be any kind of strategic depth in this game. All your crests start face down, so you have no idea which colours to collect in tricks. And because these crests change position so much, it's almost futile to plan ahead. Once most of the crests are face-up, it's too late to try to make the most of it.
