Excellent game. I particularly enjoy the action sequence. Everyone's best plans can be thwarted as territories switch hands. And battle resolution via the tower piques my interest. Strangely enough, my tower is more chaotic than a friend's. Lucky me!

I think its our best game yet, only 2 plays so rating may change. It combines all the elements from the games we love, and adds a lot of plaer interaction. Almost no downtime!

A big, meaty wargame but not too long and very little down time. These kind of games really are close to my heart. The tower is awesome!

Clever design, rich theme, simple mechanics, nice components, and "The Tower" make this game a blast; even when playing with only two players.

Now this IS a game. Seems like it will be difficult to play but the mechanics are simple. The things to think about, to decide on, the tower, the balance and the strategies - well these just make for a perfect game. Yes this is a perfect game - they do exist.

What a great game. Takes some deep thinking and foresight to win. Tough decisions. A war game that doesn't quite feel like a war game. Actually, an area control game at heart. We all love the tower for combat resolution. Adds an unpredictable element that adds to the excitement. Certainly one of the very best games out there.

I have played Wallenstein many times now, and the game remains a solid 10 for me. This game is superb -- it is a bit longer than most of the games I play (~3 hrs), but it is completely engrossing for the duration. The game uses a variety of novel mechanisms that provide _controlled_ randomness, leading to many interesting decisions. Among these, the battle tower is a standout -- it provides a quick and amusing way to resolve combat, and since unused armies remain lodged in the tower for future battles, players' luck tends to average out much better than dice. Overall, a stunning game from a master designer!

The Cat's Pyjamas! This game is as good as I expected and hoped when I read about it here on the Geek. It took me a long time to acquire it when it was out of print and then a further time to actually play it, but it was worth the wait.

I love the tower and the constantly shifting order that things are done in. There is luck, but you can play cleverly to lessen that.

I don't agree that those in the corner always win. I won on my first attempt and I was not in the corner. I was mainly in the middle of the board - though I had a few territories near a corner.

It's a bit of a brain-burner with a large chunk of the unexpected thrown in. I think some gamers might not like that random element, but I think it is often a part of great games. In any case, I found that essentially if you decide what are your two main priorities for that turn and act accordingly, you will likely prosper. Everything else should just fit around that. I reckon attempts to get all 10 cards plays per turn totally right are doomed to failure, but then one should try not to make plays which are obviously too risky, either.

Great fun. Serious, but not dull or too complicated. The Art work is great, it's easy enough to print off the cards in English from BGG - and other parts of the German edition impart a lot of flavour, so why are you waiting for it to come out in English? Get out and buy this one as soon as you can!

Wallenstein is THE game. It has everything I look for in a game. A little bit of war, a lot of strategy and tactics and a wee bit of luck. The only downside of the game is the problem finding players for it.
The tower is something I don't realy care for. It doesn't bring a great deal into the game except that there might come some reinforcements in a next fight.

Excellent Euro style wargame. The variable action sequence each season is great. There is lots of room for strategy and the tower is just the coolest!

www.spielbyweb.com has a great version online that is very intuitive.

Excellent, subtle game. Unlike other Risk style games, goodies are not automatically rewarded for conquest: you must carefully extract them without angering the peasants. Players in the center must be ready to abandon the mindset of fixed borders and think in terms of migrating, opportunistic empires. Many fascinating factors are beautifully balanced without producing an overwhelming burden of rules.
