"Desaix" personally pointed out to me that Kevin did (co-)design to another NLB-game. It was a pleasure to find it on the Italian webside of the "No Turkey"'s (http://www.valgame.eu/noturkey/gameCaldiero.pdf)...

Thanks to Desaix!! (ok, also to Kevin & No Turkey's) that he pointed out this little gem to me!

...If you want to get a little further, try Markus Stumptner's refit: a new rule-variant. All for the game (rules, new counters, markers, etc.) at: http://www.dbai.tuwien.ac.at/user/mst/games/lbn/lbn.html#ref....

Rules a bit much for a small game, but the system is rich in color and potential. Command structures weighed things down a bit, plus a couple of small rules gaps (cavalry shock rating was not discussed in rules anywhere I could see). Time of day/weather seemed a little off compared to the battle history given in the game's intro. Not bad, though.

Uses a nice variant of the NLB series rules.
These rules are way too heavy for this mini-game where there is no room at all for maneuver. It is mostly a frontal clash, way too linear and very limited in game's options...

It felt like it should be a simple, streamlined game. There's the command phase, the movement phase then the combat phase. Should be a breeze, right? But noooo ... the rules were clear as mud. Important info was buried or non-existent. And after slogging through all that, you had your first combat, you rolled the die, and the reaction was "that's it?"

A better rulebook might have solved the problem but overall, not the best of introductions to NLB. I'd recommend NLB itself, obsolete as it is.
