This is an excellent multi-player abstract game. The changing board dimensions and the tightening placement of pieces creates excellent tension. If you like abstracts, this is an excellent choice. Under appreciated game in my opinion.

2 player, it's a nice abstract. Not sure how it will play with more.

A game like in the 80th. I enjoyed it, to see a game like this again. It's not my kind of gametyp, but it's a really good strategy-game like abalone.

Tentative rating after two 2-player-games, may well go up.

Initially I was sceptical about this one, having played Organisms and then Zertz and Dvonn a lot of times and doubting that there would be another original design about isolation and a shrinking board. But it's interesting and likeable in its own right. Need more plays!

Seems cool, didn't quite completely grasp the best strategies on the first play.

Arktia is an indeed glacial but cunning mixture of placing your pieces quickly on the board, stacking them, attacking other players and doing it while keeping the pieces connected and with enough free fields around them to move onto. When all pieces are on the board, the board's building tiles start to melt (i.e. disappear), raising up your score but obviously depriving players of precious space.

Interesting as it is, the game is remarkably difficult to grasp: the rules for moving and stacking are few but very restrictive, and they feel even more so when the board starts to shrink. The initial setup of the pieces must be done with extreme care, since attacks are actually few but can result fatal.

Easy to grasp rules but as most non luck abstract games it's not that easy to play good/wise. Better opponents will win, but there is not a steep learning curve.

Interesting multi-player abstract where players can capture pieces (muglus) from other teams and with those captures try to split up the captured team's muglus grouping in which case their smaller grouping(s) would all perish having been cut off from their supply chain. Once a player has placed all his muglus he can begin removing empty pieces from the board, as the game becomes more compact the capturing seems to increase. I liked it but it seems one mistake could really ruin your whole game (say if a large portion of your pieces are captured/killed in one turn).

I have only played this online at Yucata. I am not sure I fully understand all of the movement rules and the strategies remain opaque as a consequence. I am intrigued though and will hopefully revise my rating upward with more play.

This abstract game with chunky components and simple rules enfolds its potential after just one or two plays and then keeps the players coming for more short, yet intense sessions of area control and cutthroat manipulation of "pawns".
