Token moving across the USA collecting votes.
There is much more to this six player game than it looks.

I wouldn't want to play this all the time but this game is surprisingly entertaining. At the core, the game is simply roll and move, with a lot of luck riding on the dice (especially when considering that rolling doubles helps you get the special action cards). However, the game is unusually thematic for just a map of the USA and plastic pawns. I think it does a good job recreating what a campaign must be like, choosing where to spend one's time, monitoring your opponents' progress, deciding how little time can be spent in different areas for the maximum gain. This can really be a lot of fun.

The best election game I have ever played by far. The gameplay is deceptively simple yet deep. Similar to a real campaign, you have to start with an overall strategic plan, then adapt to changing conditions and events. The endgame is incredibly tense, perhaps the best of any game I have played. Scales well for any # of players and is especially intriguing for four to six players. An underrated classic.

I spent countless hours playing this game with my high school buddies, and my family. Taught me more about election strategy than any Civics course out there. Unfortunately, the board is locked in to the 1984 electoral map, so it is pretty outdated politically right now. Very high replay value in this game.

An old-style game that I nevertheless enjoy. I use Bruce Linsey's event deck and the option to double your president when you roll doubles instead of taking an event (Bruce's rule.) I really like playing this game every year or two, though I wouldn't play it regularly.

I love this game! Every time an election rolls around, I just have to break it out and update the electoral college numbers for the states. Yeah, it's roll and move with event cards but it is quick and easy and tons of fun.

Fun game. Simple and addicting when you are in the mood. I recently changed all the states electoral votes on the map to keep the game updated to its real life counterpart. Purchased in college.

A remarkably complex game for its simple appearance. I love the scoring methodology at end game... can't help feeling that this sort of elimination scoring could work well in other games.

True, this is mostly just roll the dice and move the pawn, but with a full range of players it becomes quite tense, actually, and the scoring at the end is always very exciting.

Fine game. Sure there's dice rolling, but it balances out. And I love that you can't just go wherever you want to go. The ...
This is another one of my longer comments from years ago that got truncated during some system update (also many years ago). I wonder what I said back then.

Anyway, I love the game and don't mind the luck of the dice at all. We play fast, where you make your move and then deal with any card (passing it around the table so others can see what you got). 90 minutes is plenty for 6 players.

One of the better American presidential election games out there. Easy to play and frustrating as curve balls can derail the best laid out campaign strategies. Fun!

This is the best simple game for election year gaming. Key word is simple.
Roll dice, move, with some decisions involved.

GDW game. Campaign Trail is a good fun election game. Lots of dice rolling and neat "hidden" game mechanic for "tallying" votes as you move your President or Vice President or 3rd special piece. I take this game out every election year and most players enjoy playing the game. The rules are well written. The game plays fast (30 minutes per player). Campaign Trail plays best with 4 or 5 players. Although I despise house rules, my extended gaming group allows one - questioning one player's current vote count per turn in the state where the active player's President is in. This house rule gives limited polling "intelligence" and allows players to focus campaigning resources to either "attack" states where it's close or rally campaiging resources if you are the leader in a state trying to maintain your lead. Campaign Trail is a fun game and should be in player's collections who like gaming and US election politics in a general sense. Some players have even updated the 1983 game to include the current electoral vote counts for a more current game of Campaign Trail.
