Loved this game as a kid. I enjoyed it so much, I created my share of fake courses over my childhood years. That was a blast. It certainly involved some luck with the dice, but there was a little strategy, particularly on the par 5s and on some of the drives. How you set up the ball-flight indicator had an impact on what may occur. I would look at the club used and position the flight indicator in a position that created a best-case scenario for some of the L and R shots. Also, while Pebble Beach's 18 can be reached in two, doing so could put you in the ocean. So decisions like that did matter. And while it's always tempting to put the ball flight indicator right over the hole, in some cases you could set it up so that a couple of flights would hit the green.

All that said, it probably was about 75% luck - but to say you didn't control some of what happened wasn't necessarily true.

One thing that drove me batty - a roll of 10 with the driver. I think it was a 170 straight shot. When was the last time a pro golfer hit his drive less than 200 yards? I'll have to pull my game out and play some rounds. I've had rounds as good as 66 and some as bad as 78.

This is a pretty neat little simulation of golf that uses a clever plotting system to figure out where your various shots land.

Another 3M game that came out before AH took them over. Played it a fair amount. Lot of luck in the hitting of the ball, but interesting "plotting" of the shots with clear plastic grid and crayon. Wish I still had it. Don't have any idea where it went.

Colourful. Interesting mechanic. Golf is pretty hard to translate into a boardgame.

Play solitary once in a while. About the same fun as golf, without the sunburn or the chiggers.
I like the old version where you can pick your handicap.

Same game as SI Handicap golf, with several charts removed, leaving only 1 mens and 1 womens chart (pro, for each). New range finder is nifty and less accident-prone than original.

When I was a kid, this was kind of fun, but a bit too contrived and artifical looking back.

Fun game that I played a lot of early on. Eighteen classic golf holes are played. A template is positioned to aim your shot, you roll some dice, and plot where the shot lands. There's the rub - where's the skill?

G-O-L-F spelled L-U-C-K.
I played this a fair bit when I was in my early teens. Was it fun?...a little as you lined up each shot and tried to position the template over as much good territory as possible...just in case the bad roll occurred. The boards were actually nice... with nice thick laminated cardstock. The game just comes down to a lot of luck which far outweighs many tactical options though.

No skill and minimal decision making. Sort of the opposite of golf. Can (only) be played for mindless amusement.
