We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

This is one of the more fun racing games I have played. I'm pretty sure that its tactical racing play is rivaled only by Turfmaster.

You have to be extremely flexible when racing your sled in this game. While you may have the cards in hand to make a great move, one of the other players may move into a position that robs you of it, and not only that, may put you into a position that will destroy your sled.

When played with 5 experienced players...the game is excellence racing.

Fantastic game.

Really fun racing game, but some people find the math a bit of a chore. The mechanics aren't too difficult to teach, but it does sometimes take most of a game for it to click.

New favorite racing game. Not too long and the theme is cool. The advance games look tough.

Solid 8. Thinking is fun again! Sure, sometimes you want think about maximizing your prestige points without depleting your resource cube stock, and there's plenty of games for that. But when you want to figure out how to steer your sled through the trees without hopelessly crashing in the next turn, there's Snow Tails.

What I really like is how you can make a short, no heavy thinking, straight-curve-straight-single obstacle track to play with your parents or your buddies at the end of game night, OR you can make a nightmare course where you need RoboRally-trained puzzle-brains just to survive. Highly recommended.

Fantastic racing game. Probably the only racing game you could 1-play, and still enjoy.

Having some trouble getting this to the table... it's not terribly difficult, but it's not a game that wins over crowds of non-gamers, nor is it a game that the gamers particularly shout for, either. Still a good game, just not hitting the table all that often.

-------------------------------------------

A short review of my triumphs and tribulations of this game.

The good: The card mechanic is just plain fun. Every turn, even if you're in last place, trying to figure out how to make your sled go, is a hoot. Never gets old.

The bad: This is a racing game. I'm awesome with racing games, I think they're a good genre.

However, where this falls flat is that you can't really predict where you're going to go, and you can't really predict where your opponents are going to go as well as some other racing games. This takes out one of the most fun parts of any racing game, and that's 'screwage'.

The other thing is, people generally try to race themselves vs. the track, and hope their luck works-out in their favor as it comes to placing first second or third. This is good, but not a press-your-luck situation that I like to see---where people press their luck against eachother, and hope the track works out for them. Most players will do anything possible to avoid a damage card, even if it means losing the race.

So I like it, it still stays an '8' because I love to play it, but I think there are other, better racing games out there.

---------------

Traded:

If I had a steady group of folks that would play this, I think it would easily hit an 8.5. It really does reward repeated plays more than most games I can think of---even the thick economic games (I'm looking at you, Masters of Venice). I would really recommend doing a short-course game, and then doing a long course game with any group. The short course means any mistakes made basically get erased, and the next game should be highly contentious.

So, a steady group being friends that come over every weekend, or a homogeneous group of kids.

Otherwise, I hate to be a jerk here, but there's always someone new to the game that's like, "wait, umm, uhhh.... uhhh... wait..." and it takes them about 5 minutes to make a turn when they finally accept that yes, they're going to take a damage card. The big 'paws' token exists for a reason.
