I really wish people would rank games after a fair play of the game. My rating is based on people's response to the games I have run at various conventions.

We received 98% positive feedback at GenCon. The games played, especially at the booth (don't know about in the event hall), were well balanced. People loved the mechanics which give a great Deadlands feel, and there is no errata for the game.

This is one of the best games we have ever done, the most playtested and one we are VERY excited about.

We hope you all enjoy it!

Great game BUT downloading FAQ and BGG questions (including player cheat sheets) are a MUST before giving this game a shot.

The rules, once defined are solid and seem balanced.

Deadlands fans will be ecstatic in how the essence of the game is captured. The variety of end conditions is a nice touch.

My main complaints have to do with the components themselves. Color coded figures are required here. The bases are not really sturdy enough to support the figure which is annoying since a knocked over figure means it is wounded. Cheat sheets (provided here at BGG) really should have been included with the game.

Having printed all that stuff (and faq/bgg questions) out ahead of time, our first play only had minimal questions. If you don't do this, you're on your own. So good luck.

The rest of the components are quality. If you plan to separate the various pieces/cards/screens into respective team bags, good luck cramming it all back into the box!

BTW, the true magic of this game is all about throwing the dynamite into the church for no apparent reason (let alone to meet any kind of goal). It's a cruel world. If you don't like that, play parcheesi

Update: I painted some Warhammer 1" square (slotless) bases and glued the various factions and civilians to them. This was a MAJOR improvement to enjoyment of all. Pieces were easier to tell apart and never fell over.

I demo'd this several times throughout Gencon. People in all of the demos seemed to really enjoy themselves once they got the hang of how the game flows. It does take a while to get the hang of how the game runs (since every player faction has their own set of actions tailored to them) so your first couple of rounds in your first game might take a while. After that, you'll be exploring the many different strategies employed to win (and having FUN!)

Really enjoyable and fun game, lightish-medium, with a number of different but well-balanced factions each of which plays a bit differently. Plays well with 2, but better still with 3-4.

Generally, a good, thematic game, with genuinely meaningful decisions, and just the right amount of luck.

I have played this game many times and really enjoy it. To put all my cards on the table though, I am a HUGE Deadlands fanboy and will buy pretty much anything they put out. It is still a good game though if you are not a fan, played with many people who did not know anything about Deadlands and they like it.

Very nice Deadlands game.
The cardboard counters could be nicer, but the game itself doesn't suffer from that.

complicated game, especially for people unfamiliar with board games. interesting play design but there are lots of things the instructions don't fully explain. once you get into it, i can imagine it being a lot of fun, but it takes time to get to that point. great production design.

As a fan of the Doomtown CCG, this one was a natural for me. There's a lot in the box and a good game to match the Deadlands theme for Doomtown, just not as much of a gambling/poker aspect as the CCG. Still, one of Twilight Creations' better games.

Strictly speaking, this is my wife's choice. She's not yet been inducted into the shady world of BGG herself so I'm putting it on here for her benefit (of course, it helps that I want this game too!) - found this game after my wife and I watched Back to the Future III and the bit where Marty is about to be hanged in front of the clock tower and Doc turns up in his cool cowboy gear prompted her to say 'wouldn't it be cool if there was a game like that'. Well, a few minutes later, I was on the geek and searching. You don't pass these opportunities up!

Fun game but lots of holes in the rules. The clarifications on BGG and the publisher's website help but the rules should be tighter.

The game is very fun, encourages you to 'get into the role' of your faction and it plays very well.

Played once, rating may rise after future plays.

I like it. A very cool, zombie theme in the old west. Painted the figures to make player pieces more easily identified.
