It was impressive how they (French) made the Japanese game so good. How you play this game was interesting too. You think in any game you play but this game you have various markers, a general , markers for all three different buildings, markers for the shore. Some day i will play it again or maybe own it. Thank You

I've only played a computer version, but I really enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Knizia and love E and T, so this would be a welcome addition.

I've played Samurai a lot now, and feel like I can give it a justifiable rating of 9. Agonizing decisions, a little bit of luck, lovely glossy black pieces (Oh Little Buddha, I'm talkin' to you!), and gameboard of such awesome-itude that it scales for the number of players makes this one a can't-miss game for me.

Oh, and I suck at it, apparently.

Great game to introduce people to tile laying and majority type of games. Simple rules yet deep strategy with a light theme. Love the art and the the beautiful fiber glass bits.

I love the thoughtful pacing. As the game progresses you are slowly informed of your opponents' strategies. Your choice becomes whether to continue on your own path or to start sniping at your enemies. A short but meaty gaming experience.

What a pleasure to play one of Knizia's finest, especially with those beautiful black glass pieces. The surprising ways players manage to capture pieces is what makes this game so good.

I like this game a lot. I don't have it, but a friend of mine does. A lot of competition and strategy is involved in this one. There is some luck involved, but the right amount, I think.

A great area control game, lots of decisions, and a unique scoring mechanic that doesn't allow you to overspecialize in a single area.

From 2 to 4 players.
Ages 10 and up.
Playing time: 45 minutes.

A great area influence game, but for some reason I don't want to play it until I'm forced to, and wind up having a good time. This seems like a frequent reaction to many R.K. game designs. And, no, I don't find it dry.

Interesting position/control game. Seating order with a newbie is important, though, which can lead to balance issues.

Received via a math trade by trading away Neuroshima Hex. After reading the rules and playing a "dummy" game, I can tell that I significantly upgraded one nasty tile laying game for another. This has a lot of promise.

Update: rated 8 after two back-to-back plays. Yep, I like this better than Neuroshima Hex. There's greater tension, and though there's the luck of the tile draw, it's easier to mitigate some bad draws. There's always something to do with your five tiles.

Reiner Knizia's best games incorporate tense and tough choices. This is right up there with his best games.

Update: Two more plays with family. Quick observation--this is not a gateway game. Although the rules are streamlined, the tactics/strategy is pretty obtuse for a casual gamer. That doesn't mean it's a bad game; I think it's a very solid game. It's simply not easy on the casual gamer.

Update: I ultimately sold this. I really like the game, but I've not found other players that share my opinion. If this gets reprinted I can see myself picking it up again. But for now, I'll maintain my collection and ensure I'm keeping games that get played.
