2009-11-23 - Gift from Secret Santa

October 2011 -- I really enjoy playing this game. It plays quickly and is good for a family group. It is not overly challenging, and there is an element of chance, but even with the dice rolls, you have to make an intelligent decision on how to use the dice results. A good memory helps, too.

A LOT of fun, a GREAT theme, and quite a bit of good, frustrating decisions regarding tile flips and the puzzly design of the pack mechanic.

Re-review: Still enjoying this light, family friendly game.

I must say, that despite all the horrible reviews, my family enjoys it and my wife says "she loves it."
1. There is no direct confrontation, but there is some gentle "messing with the game."
2. She enjoys the theme a lot--nature, backpacking, exploring, survival.
3. Component quality, except for the backpack cards, is exceptional.
4. Artwork is fun and colorful.
5. The kids, and everybody, have a chance to win because of the higher luck factor.
6. Short playing time and easy rules.

I would not suggest it for a child less then 5/6. There are a few too many little rules and minor choices.

If you have a family, I would get it if it's a good price. As of mid-2013 I would pay $15-20 for it.

Nice light family game. Love the theme. I'll have to play this more with different numbers of people. So far with 2 or 3 players I can't see a need to get to the temple first and it might actually be better to go slowly. I'll have to see how this works with more players. If there is always an advantage to go slowly then the game could drag as everyone attempts to be last. So far the items that have been used a lot are the first aid kit, compass, survival guide and torch. With more players the map would be more useful than it is with only two or three players.

I enjoy the game for what it is meant to be, a quick light game. Plenty of variety and nice element of surprise as other players flip tiles in front of your pawn.

Silly die rolling game. Yes, its mostly a roll and move. It goes very fast, with lots of groans of despair and shouts of victory as people land on good or bad tiles. There mechanic of using one die to flip a die and one die to move it clever, though most decisions aren't complicated. And sometimes you just roll doubles and have no decision at all. But that's perhaps telling you that you should have picked one of several equipment pieces that would give you a decision!

Fun family game. Just enough variation in the tiles & items to make it a game (but Torches may be too powerful).

We play that 3 1-gems can be exchanged for a 3-gem & than gems can be lost in the Quicksand.

A welcome gift that has given the children (& me) a lot of enjoyment. The children do well at the memory aspect of the tiles while I can't seem to remember from one turn to the next which hide waterfalls & where the pits are concealed. I like the Ghost Stories art so this light Indy Jones-themed memory game is a goodie.

7-rating strictly with my kids. I got this for $3.17 shipped from Tanga, so basically thrifted. I read a little on it, and told my boys I thought it was Incan Gold mixed with Gulo Gulo. I was right.

My 5 and 7-yr-old boys love maps, exploring, traps, and games with a little bit of choice among the chance. They ate this up and immediately started devising their own new types of tiles and equipment. My 9-yr-old girl struggles a little more to accept the inevitable turns when you will get hurt/lose an item despite the roll.

The use of the two dice each turn is interesting and provides a meaningful choice 60ish% of the time. My boys also enjoyed the ability to choose among the 7-8 different types of equipment, and they benefitted at least once from each type they had. I think the tiles, dice, and backback space are a great mix of mechanics for young gamers. My 5-yr-old still needs some guidance through what legally fits in the backpack and how to evaluate his two options from the dice each turn.

So it's great as a family game.

This is a game sadly not appreciated for its values, which is too bad. It's not bad at all, and if you take it for what it is; a quick and kinda silly filler, then you can more easily see where it's a charmer.
It has great production value (read, thick and colorful tiles), and it's easy to learn and play right out of the box. This is a keeper.

Seems a little tough for this one to be rated outside the top 7000 games! Might be slightly over engineered for a game that's not quite sure what it wants to be (a filler or a full 'adventure'), but it's certainly got its good points. Perhaps it's the fact that there are so many things that it seems like you can do, but ultimately luck plays too big a part. I like the rucksack mechanic that forces you to predict which items will be most useful for the rest of the journey (and whether to drop items to pick up emeralds for points), and also makes you consider whether to necessarily take the biggest emerald, which will also stop you from picking up items.

Rolling the dice and moving the pawns on the octagonal tiles remind me of Verflixxt (That's Life). The adventure theme reminds me of Incan Gold (Diamant). For better or worse, it has memory aspect in addition to roll & move.

A decent game, though nothing particularly innovative or unique about it. I don't really care for the theme. The artwork is typically French. I like the quick play time. The main problem is that the game is too light to be of interest to most game players and not really fun enough to warrant regular play by more casual players. I've tried playing with my kids and will reassess if I'm able to get some more plays in.

A fun little game, it plays quickly, and while there is a big luck factor, I think there is a lot of decision making. In some ways, the game was too short. If one rolls high, one might get in and out of the forest without getting enough loot. Still, a nice diversion.

Roll-and-move with a (little) twist.
Not too many decisions to make and not really thrilling. The room-management in the backpack is a nice addition (sort of Diablo-style).
Probably the better the more players (played with 6), because of more table talk and laughs. Not to be played seriously.

This is an Easy and Light game, don't expect lots of strategy. My 6 years old son enjoyed it. Have not try with more players yet. Some items are pretty useless. Choosing the right item before the game start is important.

Overall, it is fun and quick.
